Nice, cosy little bar, good selection on tap, a few decent bottles too. Gets very busy on weekends.

Small but atmospheric bar a street below the Royal Mile near to the Castle. Itís a single room pub with the bar against one side wall to the rear. Traditional in style, it has a fairly heavy use of wood throughout and is easy on the eye for it. Thereís a considerable row of ales at the bar and no shortage of spirits behind it. As itís in the heart of the tourist area it doesnít take too long for this place to get full up but thereís small tables either side of the central doorway and some across from the bar. Itís all a bit of a squeeze at times.

Good traditional bar, the more so for its position just off the Royal Mile on the way to Grassmarket,. Attracts a largely male crowd but without the attitude. Spruce but yet well-worn. A great bar that has transcended the generations and is an essential port of call on any tour of Embra. Great range of casks and a growing range of the cool and the good in bottles.

A heavenly little pub with a solid range of cask beers; but the highlight here is certainly the whisky. The ambiance in here is simple and the vibe convivial. The pricing is fair, the staff very friendly and helpful. The cask range is not overly progressive but with an emphasis on the local thereís lots of fun stuff to be had.
One of Edinburghís top spots. Absolutely worth a visit.

Great little pub tucked away right off the Grassmarket. The focus is on cask ale and whiskey, but itís commitment to its cellar and its cool old font taps make it worth giving a try.

Only visited briefly, but liked what I saw. Small, cozy place, quite busy even in the afternoon. Good tap list and a fair selection of bottles. Friendly staff.

Varied selection of cask beer, all reasonably priced. Has occasional beer festivals where you are likely to see more unusual beers. Friendly staff. Have had pies here before but not entirely sure if they still do food. My only complaint is that most of the time itís packed in here. Also a big selection of whisky.

Visited on Saturday late evening. It was very loud and crowded, including some old farts and witches. Card reader didnít work so needed to go out to pick up cash and we got our beers 10 minutes before midnight. Then we were thrown out 10 minutes after midnight due to closing. Some great local brewers beer on tap, but not the best ales. Didnít check the bottle selection. Staff was informative but not too friendly, they were probaly fed up of drunk turists and wanted to go home, I understand that. Probably worth a visit on weekdays early afternoon.

Even though the beer selection takes second precedence to the whisky list, I was always able to find something interesting and top notch over the course of several visits. The only place that would be a more comfortable venue to enjoy a drink or two would be my own living room. The Bow Bar is a treasure. Highly recommended.
