80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 Scopey (271) Croydon, England | May 8, 2013 Traditional single-room freehouse pub located in old-town Edinburgh. Lots of interesting Scottish micros on cask and a few token Northern English. The bottle selection is compact, but well-chosen. If you like whisky this is also a great place to visit. Really enjoyed it until it started to get very busy, but then again is was a Saturday. Prompt and friendly service. An Edinburgh must-visit. | 84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 miquelcrush (8) Granollers, Spain | April 12, 2013 Good selection of craft beers from UK and from other countries, good selection of Whiskies. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 13/20 MrW (31) Londerzeel, Belgium | February 11, 2013 Nice bar located in the centre of Edinburgh. A lot of locals, which was a good thing. Warming stove.
Poor selection, some internationals. But they flyer with the message "Winter Beer Festival", but like non of the beers were available.
Expensive but friendly, fluent, helpful barkeeper.
| 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Theydon_Bois (372) The ’Sham, England | December 22, 2012 Visited at lunchtime on Saturday 8th Decemeber ’12.
Medium sized single room venue, bar to the left as you enter. 8 cask, largely scottish micros including Tryst, Stweart and Hghland Brewing Co on my visit, nearly always one or two English offerings as well.
Place was pretty busy so we stood by the bar.
Service was prompt and we never had to wait.
Have visited the Bow many times, classic trad bar and a must on a visit to the Burgh! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 JorgeLee (71) , England | November 13, 2012 Excellent pub in central Edinburgh. Quite a small old fashioned room, quiet but helpful enough service, no music, just lots of mostly Scottish beer on tap, a large and moderately interesting botle selection (for a visitor the taps were way more appealing) and a colossal whisky selection. | 74 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 lambic (60) Newton Poppleford, England | October 17, 2012 One of the best bars in Edinburgh, usually a good selection of Scottish micros on served via traditional Scottish air pressure. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 Kingink (7) Edinburgh, | September 17, 2012 Used to be my local and the best bar in Edinburgh. However on my last few visits, I haven’t been as impressed. I don’t think the beers are being as well looked after as they used to be. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 sic1314 (229) Leiden, Netherlands | August 28, 2012 The essential Edinburgh pub, great beer and service. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 BeeravoreVT (6) Stowe, Vermont | August 15, 2012 I absolutely love this place! The staff are welcoming, helpful and very knowledgable. Their passion for imbibing and food is very evident. The Tall Font system is still in use and they have a good diverse selection of real ale, mostly focused on the York area. The whiskey selection is well priced, with way too many great options. Basically, you can spend an entire day here and be a very happy albeit drunk person. The staff made my visit to Edinburgh, giving me great places to eat all over the city. I would suggest thie Bow Bar to all. | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Tim Webb (173) Cambridge, England | August 5, 2012 Good traditional bar, the more so for its position just off the Royal Mile on the way to Grassmarket, directly opposite one of the best whisky shops in the world. An essential port of call if doing Embra. |
