Great selection of ales normally served to a very high standard.

Like its sister pubs Bow Bar and Cloisters, reasonable selection of well priced beer. Good service, helpful staff. Also runs occasional beer festivals.

Basic boozer with cask ales in good condition. Visited on Sunday afternoon: 26th Oct 2014. Friendly staff, North American. Comfy furniture around the back, not much in and around the actual bar area. Big window at the front, not a lot else to add really: no nonsense place where the beer is the major selling point, there is food available but we didnít have any.

About a quarter hours walk from the city centre. Rather spacious pub, though with only a few tables to sit at and a slightly sterile atmosphere. Good selection of regional Scottish cask ales and friendly service.

Okay ambiance but I felt - apart from the bar area itself - that it seemed too modern to feel like "an old pub". I also didnít feel I was being served fast enough, sorry...but the staff was busy talking among themselves (and it was "just" a lazy afternoon). Okay selection of beers, but a bit off the "normal circuit" (or, in the wrong direction, for me anyway). Wouldnít mind going there again, though.

The Third in the Triplet of my Favourite Edinburgh Pubs, all owned by the same people... and thus run in the same way ... Always a good selection of Cask ... always served well ... and good service.

Tucked away in Stockbridge, this is worth a visit from town for any visitors. Friendly efficient staff with a mixture of cask and keg. Has the feel of a proper boozer.

Attended same night as Ashton McCobb, so see his rating for details. Nice bar tenders and a good atmosphere. Could have had a better selection on tap. Did not try any food.

Re-rate - Iíve just decided that after many more visits, this is the pub in Edinburgh I feel most comfortable in and which has the best chat. A proper local. Previous Re-rate 19/02/13. I revisited and with a much improved range of beers this should definitely be considered as one of the best alehouses in Edinburgh. Previous rating on 22/01/13 = 66 This is a lovely old pub with nice traditional decor and friendly helpful staff. There seemed to be around 6 cask and 4 kegs on. Iím told that they keep their ale very well, though on this evening the majority of the beer wasnít enjoyable. I will need to revisit and re-evaluate. I think they need to reduce the number of slightly íiffyí breweries that they seem to use and to be far more selective about who they put on tap.
