78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 Torontoblue (30) Edmonton, Alberta | April 11, 2013 Smallish, wood panelled English-style bar/restaurant just off the main strip of Whyte Ave. It really does remind me of a typical English pub; makes me happy.
Plenty of seating, with a few stools at the very small bar. Large front doors are open during the hot months, and a small patio is available.
6 taps on offer, which rotate often, and around 50 bottles on the menu, too. Staff really do know their beer, and the manager often brings in beers not available elsewhere, or well in advance of being made readily available. Draught beers are always fresh, and 9/10 served in the correct glassware.
Food menu is small by todays standards, but what is offered is killer. Very European in their offerings, the steak tartare is wonderfully fresh, and is half price on Wednesdays (along with $2.00 off all taps). The Make-Your-Own Hummus is very hearty and filling. Wiener Schnitzel is a must try, too.
The only downside to this place is the opening hours. Only opens from 5pm, so a liquid lunch or brunch is sadly not possible.
A must visit next time you visit Edmonton! | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 Hoser (151) Cowtown, Alberta | August 25, 2012| Updated August 27, 2012 Loved the place great selection of bottles, although I didn’t eat there the food looked great. With this place and Three Boars Edmonton is becoming a good beer city. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Ferris (77) Edmonton, Alberta | August 3, 2012| Updated September 2, 2012 Stopped in for a drink, really nice upscale pub atmosphere. Interesting bottles, including quite a few sours. Owner/bartender knows his stuff and I could talk to him all day about beer.
I will go back and try the food and update this review then.
Update: Went in again and had the food and it was great. Another night spending time talking beer with the bartender and staff. Definitely a hidden jewel. |
