garth_86 (3), EDMONTON, Alberta does not count - explanation | | April 8, 2012 Awesome food great beer. What else do we need. Menu changes regularly and there is quite a good selection of different beers. | | Farees (23), Edmonton, Alberta | | March 24, 2012 A young hip pub with a great vibe. One of the more diverse beer menu’s in town, but a tad overpriced. Service is rarely very good or quick and unfortunately more often than not they know little about the beer. Menu is interesting and food is generally pretty good. | | pintbypint (22), Edmonton, Alberta | | December 31, 2011 A must visit if you are beerhunting in Edmonton. Decent bottle list covering a wide range of styles, a few rotating taps and some limited release stuff in bottles too. Proper glassware is used, draughts are poured well. Staff are pretty knowledgeable about what they are serving. Water is constantly replenished on the table. Small menu with some comfort food items and burgers. They’re supposed to do a pretty wicked brunch as well. Also serves coffee and deserts. Good value, good atmosphere. Time your visit well, this place is small and seating is very limited. You may also experience a wait for a washroom on busier nights as they toilets are single occupancy. Also if you’re checking out their beer menu online, and it looks a bit lame, the actually beer menu inside is more interesting and quite a bit larger. Theses are just minor quibbles, overall this is in my top 5 places in the country, even a seasoned rater will probably find something to rate. | | reebtogi (12), Edmonton, Alberta | | November 2, 2011 A restaurant that seems geared for the university crowd. There is at least 9 beers on tap at any given time and a wide selection of bottles available, I counted 88 on the menu. The food is standard pub fare and the service is pretty good. | | Savvy1982 (53), Lethbridge, Alberta | | August 24, 2011 Decided to check this place out on my latest trip yo Edmonton. We rolled in at about 8 on a Sunday night, and the place was packed. Very young crowd, mostly students, loud but in a ’small place that’s packed’ way, not in a ’people being drunk idiots’ way. Tap list was pretty impressive, good mix of Alberta breweries and the better class of imports, bottle list wasn’t the largest in Alberta, but was thoughtfully written. Didn’t eat, but we enjoyed this place. Probably the best ’scene’ beer-wise in Alberta. | | Ferfie (11), Edmonton, Alberta | | June 28, 2011 Definitely a hipster crowd, but it’s a great place to go with some friends to grab a great brew. Really relaxing, not judgmental, and it’s not a "bro" hangout, so I really like it. I only have had the Cornbread, but it was good, They get some really great off menu stuff occasionally and good rotating kegs. Also the Cask nights that they’ve done here have been awesome.Good place. | | gramity (22), Edmonton, Alberta | | February 14, 2011 Great atmosphere with great beers both in bottle and on tap.
Plays hosts to some awesome cask nights.
Issue I have with Sugar Bowl is the absence of customer parking and their lack of capacity. They often play host to events they just can’t handle and turn many a potential customer away.
If you do get in and seated it is a fabulous experience. | | presario (135), Stampede City, Alberta | | November 30, 2010 Like Alberta’s own mini Alibi Room! Above average tap selection and great bottle selection. One page of cool food items and two pages of beer. Crab fritters and lamb burger were tasty! | | Torontoblue (16), Edmonton, Alberta | | July 9, 2010 Paid a visit with a pal from Toronto for the 2nd Cask Night. Arrived mid afternoon, and managed to get a seat (well, comfortable wooded bench that runs the length of the patio) out on the very sunny and hot patio. Patio remains quiet as it is set quiet a way back from the main road.
Server came over after about a minute with some very welcome glasses of water and the lunch menus. Basic choices of food but what there is is reasonably priced and very tasty. Server was very polite and chatty, and made you feel welcome.
The tap selection is very Euro-centric at the moment and a bit lame (IMHO) but the recent addition of Alley Kat is very welcome. It’s the bottle list that really makes this place stand out; great diversity and the pricing just can’t be argued with. DDC Peche Mortel is only $6.00 a bottle, Rogue XS Imperial Stout only $23.00!!
Can get very busy at times, especially with the student rush, but most people don’t mind sharing tables with total strangers.
Overall, has a real nice relaxed atmosphere, staff are attentive and is just a great place to waste away the hours drinking great beers and meeting new friends.
| MrFecesious (7), British Columbia does not count - explanation | | August 4, 2009 one of the better places in edmonton. tucked in the university area, this small place has an impressive selection of different beers, at quite reasonable prices (for this city). not nearly as much price mark-up compared to other bars/restaurants. they recently changed/added to their beer menu. food is ok. bistro-esque. truly a great place to go for an atmosphere for talking to your company, and enjoying a beer menu that is skewed from the average pub/bar/restaurant in the area. |
