YeomanJustin (3), , does not count - explanation | | May 23, 2012 Nice little area for the retail store. Never been on a tour but you can always try their beer. Never talked to the staff, every time ive gone they just sit behind the desk. The selection is awesome if you can get there when they have some of their Project X stuff in, only problem is that it doesn’t last long. | | kevinsenn (31), Waterloo, Ontario | | March 26, 2012 No tour available on our visit, as toffsbury mentioned. But 4 samples available in the store, which is nice, and friendly knowledgable staff. One non-LCBO beer available, but it’s the worst one (Golden Horseshoe Lager). Crazy Canuck smelt and tasted better fresh from the store than it does from an LCBO can. Relatively large selection, considering it’s just one brewery, with rotating seasonals, and one-offs. Have to try a Project-X sometime. | toffsbury (5), Toronto, Ontario does not count - explanation | | March 25, 2012 Will re-rate when I come back and get the tour. They were installing new equipment and tossing out the old tanks, so they couldn’t bring people into the brewery proper. They were renovating the whole place, actually; the owner and his son were installing light fixtures while we were there.
Knowledgeable staff, who were a bit standoffish at first but warmed up when we showed we were serious about beer. Four brews on tap to taste, five in the cooler to buy. Prices same as LCBO, as required by law. (Sigh.) Crazy Canuck is pretty nice, and the Devil’s Pale Ale is always worthwhile. Orange Peel Ale is a good seasonal. Everything is available at the LCBO, of course, but they do regular experimental "Projext X" days which should be worth checking out. Not this time, but will check it out next and re-rate. | | matt7215 (47), Cambridge, Ontario | | February 20, 2012 it really depends on if you visit great lakes during a project x event or on a regular day. if you visit on a project x day you will get to try some really cool one off brews, eat great food, and enjoy terrific sevice. if you visit on a regular day you’ll get the regular GL lineup and spotting over the counter service. plan your trip wisely. | | Sammy (408), Toronto, Ontario | | July 23, 2011 A nice place to visit when Project X, or when special releases as few bottles, a chance to try an experiment. | | jerc (211), Toronto, Ontario | | July 23, 2011 As a place to stop for a visitor the brewery is relatively uninteresting most days. The selection of beers is generally available at the LCBO, unless they have some of their one off "Project X" bottles available. For events like the monthly Project X and their BBQs though it is well worth a visit. Lots of fun, staff is very friendly and they are generally very good value for your money. Check the brewery website and Twitter for brewery and event news. They don’t normally serve food other than at events which is generally BBQ or food supplied by one of their licensees, and generally pretty decent. | | ontbeermaker (127), Ontario | | May 28, 2011 Right off the hwy. Visited here for the Charity barbeque 2011 after the TFC game. I had a really good time here. there were a couple of beers of theirs you could only get on tap. In side there was a few taps with mostly their seasonals on. They had a few coolers with bottles of their seasonals. They had a lot extra taps for the event but other then that there wasnt a whole lot. Pretty interesting place. I would really not recommend a stop unless you a) like to visit different brewerys or b) there is a special event going on. ie project X night, or other possible one offs or similar events. The selection they have was entirely the same as the lCBO’s. but it was a nice brewery and I did enjoy my time here. they doo have some sweet brews, | | cfrancis (58), Ottawa, Ontario | | April 18, 2011 Located in an industrial park just off the QEW in Etobicoke. Nice tasting room and good service. A few taps are hooked up for testing. Would love to come back on a Project X night. | | mabel (211), Toronto, Ontario | | April 4, 2010 Visited recently for their April Fool’s Project X in the back party room, but have been here on a dozen occasions in the past year or so, this brewery is fast becoming one of Ontario’s most interesting brewers -- by far. Once a month they hold their cask night called Project X, usually the second Thursday of the month, where you can try their latest tipples on cask for a $10 entrance fee. This month they had four: a DIPA, a Triple, a Weisse IPA, and an Imp Stout. Using one of the free entrance tickets you can try their regular line-up (4+) on tap or in bottles. The brewers and workers are always milling around, chatting and being sociable hosts. Getting there is easy via TTC: a bus ride from Royal York is less than ten minutes. Often the brewers bring in guest chefs from various restaurants around town, usually creating tasty snacks. (This time was a lovely stew with several meat and cheese plates.) Outside of Project X, I suppose popping by for a 6-pack or bomber of a seasonal would be worth it but suddenly in that sense it seems a fair distance to travel. Regardless, this is definitely a place to keep an eye on in the coming months. |
