A relaxed, laid back bar with one of the best selections of local and not so local beers and ciders we found in Cornwall. The Front was deservedly chosen as the CAMRA Kernow (Cornwall) pub of the year in 2011. It’s tucked in under the Harbour Lights fish and chip shop and just happened to be a minute’s walk away from the apartment we were renting in Falmouth so it became our temporary local and it proved hard to stay away. It has low brick arches and was probably once a boathouse or old warehouse. There are a few pieces of original art on the walls and a mismatched collection of wooden tables and captains’ chairs. Although it can be busy, it’s a comfortable place to be and if you’re wearing boating shoes you’ll fit in very well, this being right on the waterfront. The beer seems to have a rapid turnover so it’s nice and fresh and there’s a very good choice of ales and ciders, most of which are served by gravity directly from the cask. Food isn’t served but customers are welcome to bring their own, whether it’s a box of cooked to order fish and chips from Harbour Lights (which I can confirm are very good indeed) or something from one of the several other take away shops in town. Modern-looking interior, but with lots of beer. There’s even some gravity stuff. There are few good ticker places in the area, but this seems like one of the best we found in Cornwall.

Probably the best location in Falmouth, right on the quayside. Crowded, but with a relaxed atmosphere welcomes you as you step into this low ceiling pub. Great selection of real ales, nothing to complain about in the bottled selection either. Another great pub close by is The Chainlocker, straight across the boardwalk.

One of the best beer bars, if not the best non-brewpub beer bar in all of Cornwall. Cool, relaxed atmosphere and youthful vibe. Right on the boardwalk/pier. Great real ale selection with a large handful of real ciders from the box as well. Also has a thoughtful selection of imports like Gonzo porter.
