HoDo Lounge

This is actually a hotel with a nice rooftop bar with grilled food, but only one beer. The lobby bar had a much better selection, but I had to sneak in before a live music event with a $15 cover. I would definitely go back. 5-8-12-9-8-14 on 6-16-2012. OK, lobby bar. Six beers on tap, verbal menu, which wouldn’t be a problem except that the lone run-ragged barman took ten minutes to get to me, and left twice to make mixed drinks. Shaker pints only. Very limited bottle menu. Tasty food, but a 20 minute wait on a Sunday evening. There are better beer places in Fargo now. Eat here then go to Front Street, which sadly I cannot add to Ratebeer.

Nice chill lounge on a weekday afternoon. Only 6 beers on tap, but one was Black Note and a tap was $4. So, yeah, nice stop!

Great atmosphere, Great service. Food is wonderful. The beer selection changes ofter and they do get in specialty items from time to time. Great liquor and wine selections as well!

It’s true Fargo may not be blessed with great beer, but at least with the HoDo lounge they have a place with great atmosphere. It feels like an upscale cocktail lounge in New York lounge except the bartenders are really down to earth and you can actually get into this place. The art pieces are fantastic especially the canvas with what looks like a house doing a twisting somersault and the vibrant fresco near th hotel entrance. The taps are all craft and they have some decent bottles as well. Again it’s not a beer destination but if you want to drinks craft beer in a cool location this is the place for you.

Cool restaurant...probably the most interesting one in Fargo. Great upscale twists on American fare. I imagine their beer selection changes quite often too. Great service. Great Food. I’d come back here again.

OK, I had to check and make sure I was in Fargo after I walked into this place. Super hip, urban, artistic place. Check the website for pics if you don’t believe me. The Hotel Donaldson has 17 rooms, each decorated by a different artist. My group was taken up by the bar manager to see one. Impressive. Entering the lounge you are walking along a very large, interesting mural done with all sorts of materials. Original art adorns the walls which I think are brick. On tap they had 2 different Summits, Rogue dead guy, and maybe some other micros. Good bottle selection of US micros and imports. Nothing Belgian or rare, but solid choices. They had some Christmas beers as well. Staff knows their stuff and are very friendly. Great vibe in this place. Doesn’t feel like a hotel bar at all. I ate food from the lounge menu...which is sparse, but the Buffalo burger was good enough to bring me back 2 nights later for a repeat. The full HoDo retaurant menu is available as well, a bit pricey though. Pints of Dead Guy were $5 and were in excellant shape. Good wine & spirit selections as well. Certainly recomended..
