32 reviews for Flying Saucer Draught Emporium (Fort Worth)
| BMan1113VR (108), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas | | October 19, 2009 Attended during their Fourth Annual Fall Beer Fest. The Fest was in their parking lot, but I did go and order a beer in the actual building. Seemed like a pretty normal Flying Saucer. Same service, same amount and quality of taps. Seemed to be a smaller building than the ones in Addison and Little Rock. There is also an upstairs and an outside patio. I am sure parking would be a whole lot easier if we were allowed to park in the lot being used by the fest. | | beer4mencc1701 (15), Irving, Texas | | August 5, 2009 Some of this is from review of the Addison location... I find the Ft. Worth location more inviting, but if the weather isn’t nice enough to sit outdoors it’s much harder to find a table or place at the bar here, it’s smaller indoors. The large windows & natural lighting in the nice bar area is a plus, and the location, on the downtown square adds to the ambiance of a real local neighborhood bar. Flying Saucers are very beer-centric of course & don’t feel like a chain at all, but I agree with other reviews that the staff isn’t exactly filled with in-the-know beer enthusiasts. Great selection, that rotates frequently, but I have occassionally had a skunked beer or found the lines to seem dirty. Food is average, but selections are good for enjoying with beer (great soft pretzels with mustard). One of the better places to find great beer in the DFW area, to be sure. | | Cavie (49), Fort Worth, Texas | | June 6, 2009 Been here several times before, just now got around to rating it. Service COMPLETELY depends on when you go. Nights are generally always crowded, and it takes awhile to get something at the bar. A good majority of the waitresses are decent and know enough about the selection to be helpful; some of them blow. Last night I asked for a Barley wine and was brought a DIPA. Oops. Nice rustic feel, matches the Fort Worth feel. Great selection that is always rotating. Prices can get a little steep on some of the harder to find things but is still a nice place. The patio is a great place to be on Fort Worth nights. | | msante79 (73), Orland Hills, Illinois | | April 27, 2009 My first visit to a Flying Saucer. Nice selection of taps. Especially for Texas. The Maharaja and Double Bastard on tap. Nice variety of styles. Nice outdoor roof top. Had a band though not worth the cover charge. Place smelled like a spoiled beer though. Did not try the food. Pretty enjoyable place. Would be my first stop if I was in the Ft. Worth area. | Jetsetjazz (3), Fort Worth, Texas does not count - explanation | | March 16, 2009 On a recent visit to this temple of beer, I enjoyed two selections from Avery Brewing starting first with the IPA on Cask which was slightly better than average and then moving to The Maharajah which blew me away from a taste perspective. Being a follower of all things hoppy, it was a very pleasant experience. I found the staff to be very helpful and they knew their stuff. The Buffalo Wings I ordered were rubbery and not up to par for this Upstate New York transplant. But heck, I didn’t go there for the wings. I went for the beer and wasn’t disappointed! Overall a good experience. They too keep their taps clean which is important. It’s my second visit to a saucer in this area. I’ve already visited the Addison branch and find it to be just as inviting for any serious beer lover. Overall a thumbs up! | | Marinesuds (13), Hawaii | | February 22, 2009 Nice bar with a great selection of beers. The waitresses in Britney Spears costumes is a nice touch, and along with the great beers they kept me coming back. The bar tenders were friendly and knowledgeable, and aided me on my beer journey. | TxTaylor (1), , Texas does not count - explanation | | January 19, 2009 Each section is unique. One is outdoors on a balcony, which is quite nice. Another is more of a covered partially-conditioned patio, which is alright. Another is more of a small, dense lounge, while another is more of a traditional bar scene. And those were the only four I saw. Given the normal prices, you’ve got to go when there’s a special, which appears to be fairly regularly. $2.75 for all Texas pints when I was there. | | ericandersnavy (27), crossroads, Texas | | January 1, 2009 stopped by here as a last minute decision on my girlfriends birthday to try the rahr & sons end of winter warmer only to find they were out of it. this was my first beer bar. selection was nice. service was good. and the uniforms the waitresses wear are a plus also. i just wish it was a little brighter in there so i could see the beer better. a pretty good place and i will go back again sometime | ecwooten (4), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | July 30, 2008 Original location of the (now) chain of fine beer bars. Lots of beers on tap, even more on bottle. Emphasis on Texas/local beers typically means you’ll have all or most of the offerings of Real Beer (Blanco) and Saint Arnolds Brewery (Houston), and especially those harder to find seasonals like Saint Arnold Stout, which otherwise barely makes it out of Houston.
Has a beer engine in the upstairs rumpus room if they’re not busy enough to have that room open and staffed, good luck on getting anybody to go up there and draw a pint.
I’ve been satisfied with the quality of the beer coming out of the lines. Even with ~70 to look after, they seem to keep them clean and fresh.
Beers uniformly served in American pint glasses. Some bottle offerings will net a semi-appropriate glass if the staff is interested in providing it at that moment.
Generally speaking, there’s table service inside. Decorations include a zillion plates on the walls. Food is mostly sandwich, salad, lighter-fare type stuff. Also various hot pretzels, popcorn, and so forth for snacks. Smoking allowed cigars are at least relegated to the porch. Live music on occasion sometimes this results in a minimal cover charge (~$2). Extensive beer menu somewhat de-convoluted by chalkboard at bar highlighting the newest or seasonal offerings. Also typically a fire-sale beer on tap for the bargain conscious. | | Bhops (34), Dallas, Texas | | May 10, 2008 [ Updated September 4, 2008 ] Good beer selection, esp for a texas joint. Neat historic building with terraces and porches off the square in fort worth... service wasnt that great but they were fun to look at. Food was surprisingly good. |
