Hard to rate properly. I enjoy almost all the beers I’ve had from Rahr & Sons. Wednesdays and Saturdays they open up their brewery to the public for tours and tastings. $7 gets you a glass and three pints of their beer on tap and a half pint of a special, in house brew made for the tasting. It is often crowded and sometimes they do not offer all their beers on the taps, and it does get hot. They also bring in pizza for sale from a Fort Worth local pizza joint. I have fun when I go out there. It is worth doing at least once.

It’s definetly best to go on Wed., avoid the crowds and they crack open a keg of an unreleased test batch. The last Wed. I went it was a dark Belgian. Local food is avalible for a price and you get a glass and 3 beers all for only $5. Not bad. Its more of a party than a tour, so don’t go expecting a bunch of technical lectures or even much beer nerdiness.

Ambiance - large, nice area for large Saturday crowd, large screen projector with the game on. If it were summer, it would be hot and 3 beers wouldn’t be enough. Service - The lines were long but they served beer fast without overfoaming the glass. The main restroom line was slow but I heard they had outhouses available. Good selection of beers (see beer ratings). Food - They serve Gyro’s one week, Burgers the next, BBQ 3rd, etc... I did not try the food. Value - was great, bring my glass back and only cost $5 for a tour and 3 free beers; $7 normal price. Overall - Great place on a Saturday afternoon. The tour and beer isn’t as good as Saint Arnolds/Houston but I must admit I did like the atmosphere better - though, I might think otherwise during the summer months. I do think i will try to make it back about once a month since this is the only local brewery that I’m aware of.

February 2010 -- Timing is everything -- I arrived in DFW on a Wednesday afternoon for a quick business trip and was happy to find that Rahr hosted a "tour" every Wednesday afternoon. After surviving a brutal run thru DFW traffic on a rainy afternoon, I arrived to find this place packed with "tourists" -- But I was really pleasantly surprised to find this "tour" is really just a nice afternoon session. For a mere 7 bucks you can score a nice logo glass and tokens for three full pints of excellent beer. Because I had to drive on, I only had two. Both beers were excellent. There was some food available (local pizzeria?), too, but I didn’t even check if it was free or at a cost. Good visit. If I were local, I’d be back every week. I’ll have to settle for trying to line up every other trip to DFW on a Wednesday! (They do it on Saturdays, too). (Brewery #501)

Stopped by on a hot Saturday in August and was blown away by the number of people in attendance. Must’ve been over 1000 easily crammed in a warehouse without A/C. It was hot, stuffy, and noisy but the beers were readily available and I had the opportunity to speak, thanks to Cavie, with Fritz Rahr. Probably better in cooler weather, especially for a sweat hog like me. Friendly staff (thanks to all who tried to get me a Buffalo Butt glass!) that really knows their stuff. Gift shop for all the trinkets you might want but don’t necessarily need. Glass prices are a little steep beyond the pint glass included with the $5 admission price, but oh well. Worth a visit.

Stopped by for the Saturday celebration. Very busy, with live music and the staff wandering about. Talked with brewers and Fritz Rahr for awhile. It is very evident that they know their product and have a love for what they do. Took the offered tour of the location and very much enjoyed it. This really is just a warehouse, kind of a nasty feeling but the tanks were gleaming. Quite a contrast!
1/23/10 Ok so I will pre-empt this by saying I am quite the Rahr fanboy. I have been on numerous Saturdays and I believe this is a great way to spend the afternoon. Most of the staff know me by now and have taken care of me more than once. It is less of a tour and more of a party now which I’m cool with. Come with a friend and enjoy.

I went here to visit my good friend Jason who is the assistant brew master. The ambiance was average, lots of people on Saturday and sometimes they will show sports games. The service was top notch, Jason was obviously helpful, but the other workers were real cool about everything too. Rahr has 12 beers, 6 of which were available when I went. Not too bad considering their micro status. The value was off the charts primarily because, well it’s free! This is defiantly the coolest brewery we have in the Metroplex.

I have only been to the warehouse in the winter time, so bring a hoodie at least to keep you warm until the winter warmer does that for you. Staff if friendly as can be. Live music is provided for you. You can buy unique drinking glasses to put your free beer in. I enjoy this beer and the atmosphere.
