| madthom8 (52), Twickenham, England | | April 15, 2012 Visited March 2012. Horrible place. I’ve never been to a brewpub that didn’t actually feature their own beers on the menu or by any indication (blackboard, sign, ads on tables) in the bar. It makes you wonder if they still brew on the rather knackered looking kit. To eat, I had an overpriced (€13.50) schnitzel covered in green sauce. The sauce is supposed to be a Frankfurt specialty, but I ended up scraping it off the schnitzel as it tasted so bad. And I don’t consider myself a fussy eater. The Hell was okay and I didn’t bother with the Dunkel. The service was slow and unfriendly, and to top it all off the waiter decided to tip himself with some of my change from a 20. I found it interesting that after spending two weeks in Franconia with most everyone being kind and friendly, I’m in Frankfurt for a few hours and I get this treatment. Hmmm. Anyway, avoid this place like the plague. | | villevav (57), , Finland | | June 9, 2011 The place itself is very nice, but the beers, namely the dunkel and the helles, are not worth tasting. In addition to their own products, they serve some common bulk brews, which aren’t exciting either. | | Ungstrup (335), Oamaru, New Zealand | | May 2, 2011 If you go to Frankfurt you have to go here, even if you are only laid over 3-4 hours in the airport. It is a short trip with the U-bahn and an easy walk. I visited on a 3 hour layover on a 39 hours flight back from NZ. Though only two beer on tap, but they are really refreshing sipping in the sun on the sidewalk. Seems like a locals place. The menu looked inviting, but I was full. It also seems like a very traditional place - You can, if you must place the order at the bar, but they seemed to prefer table service, but that was a bit slow for my thirst. | | Bierkrug (214), Idar-Oberstein (In East Africa), Germany | | April 6, 2011 My first stop after returning to Germany. I was there for lunch so service was not a problem.. As far as as a place goes it is quite nice. It is run by a family and they are very nice and have a lot of fun running the place. Your in a very non beer city so this is one of the few brewbups arond. As a stop it is a good one. The food was normal and good but not outstanding. The beers leave something to be desired but their ratings are elsewhere. | | Indutiomarus (36), Idar-Oberstein, Germany | | January 1, 2010 Well I was also not impressed with this location. Beers were ok and service was horrible. Food was not much better. There are better places to visit in Frankfurt for sure. | | mullet (224), Melbourne, Australia | | December 30, 2009 Nice enough place, let down by beer quality. Very yeasty and average. Ate lunch there and then kicked ourselves for not eating at the big market out on the pedestrian mall around the corner. I was quite keen to like this place as there’s not much else in the centre but I wouldn’t really recommend it unless the beer improves. | | tomciccateri (89), Albuquerque, New Mexico | | April 6, 2008 [ Updated April 21, 2008 ] Used the U-5 stop Kostablerwiche. Dark textured maroon ceiling and light yellow walls with framed artwork of outdoor scenes. Non-smoking inside! Dark tan tiled floors with dark wood hand-hewn beams. Open since ~1976. Numerous blocked wood doors in walls. Square 2-top and 4-top tables with blue linen tableclothes. Walnut padded chairs. Hanging lamps and potted palnts. Brewhouse visible at rear of room. English language menus available. Tasty cheese platter. but slow service. Mellow music. Futbol on TV. Downstairs keller. Growlers to go. House beers of Blonde and Dunkles. | | DSG (42), Tel Aviv, Israel | | January 23, 2008 [ Updated August 18, 2008 ] Visited this place last summer. I had a few hours in Frankfurt and was quite upset I’m not gonna find this place because I had no map of Frankfurt, but eventually I just stumbled upon it. I was the only customer (it was noon) and I got a rather friendly service. I had a baked potato with sour cream which was nice. The beers are OK but really nothing special. | | Lubiere (349), Ottawa, Ontario | | November 25, 2007 Visited on Oct. 17 2007. Both beers were infected and dissapointing. However, the food menu was nice, with good lunch specials and attentive service. For 7 euros, I had a good soup, varied meats main course, and a nice ice cream for desert. Only go if your in town and for lunch. Frankfurt is a rather dissapointing beer destination. | | Rune (234), Tromsø, Norway | | September 25, 2007 Zwölf Apostel can be found at the corner of Rosenberg strasse and Elefantengasse in the innerstadt of Frankfurt a.m. There is a restaurant upstairs with the hausbrauerei downstairs in dark brown, but cosy cellar. Their two regular brews – a Dunkel and a Hell – are very middle-of-the-road in aroma and taste. I was informed by the barman that both had alcohol strength of 3.8% (visited 17.09.2007). |
