15 reviews for Stubbie Shirt Pub
Bamos (3), Florida does not count - explanation | | July 31, 2009 Incredible selection of beers - hundreds in bottles, 15 or so on tap, with a big international focus. A wide collection of glassware, so the beer is always served in the right vessel. The bartenders go through a training period on the beers before being allowed to serve, so they really knew their stuff. Ordered the sausage sampler on the German side of the bar, and it was pretty good. Only downside is that it was hard to get service when there were more than a few people in the bar. Bottom line, though, is that you can’t do better for beer choices in Gainesville. | | italarican (10), Astoria , New York | | June 18, 2009 Stubbie is the perfect place for college students who want to step into the world of craft beer. They have an expansive list of beers available in Florida, although looking back, I would have preferred the beer menu separated by styles rather than by country. The staff are very open to recommending beers based on what you’ve had before. They pour your beer into a glass and leave the bottle there for you to examine. As I said before, the selection is great: Rogue, Dogfish Head, Anchor, Chimay, etc. | boscoja1 (1), gainesville, Florida does not count - explanation | | April 26, 2009 One my favorite places I’ve ever been. Great selection, knowledgeable staff, atmosphere, and prices are not outrageous. | | Beershine (261), Where Climate Suits My Clothes, Vietnam | | February 13, 2009 Cozy, lively, atmospheric, fun atmosphere with decent prices. Split into two smaller rooms, one with a German theme and one with an Aussie theme but not appreciably different except the bar in the Aussie room is longer. The German food is very good. Impressive selection of beers including seasonals. THE Gainesville beer bar. | | Oakes (421), gone rambling, Vietnam | | January 16, 2009 NIce place. Has a German vs Australian theme to the rooms. Lots of beers, from everywhere. The menu is largely German with some fun stuff. I was really impressed with the beer list and the vibe. One of the better beer bars in the state, definitely. | thexeve (1), , Florida does not count - explanation | | August 8, 2008 This is a tremendous place in one of the best places to live in the Country. The ambiance is unique and creative while totally unpretentious and laid back. It provides two environments with one common thread - beer! On one side, aussie-aboriginal decor with ridiculously creative T-shirts folded into wall paper (printed right upstairs). On the other side, a German Beer Hall theme is executed to perfection, with a menu to match! This is no ordinary bar food. Example, Bavarian pretzels, various bratwaursts with krauts and cucumber salads. They hand peel potatoes and cut their own fries and German Potato Pancakes (Kartoffelpuffer) which are served with a curry ketchup - amazing! They have perfected the recipes and take the food as seriously as the beer selection. Which must now be around 430! The service is exceptional. With educated staff always eager to make suggestions based on your taste. Gar and Berkeley are passionate about their beer and food and it shows. The beers are served in the appropriate glassware (often, the brewery provided glasses). Poured properly and priced right. Plenty (i mean a three digit number) of beers for a few dollars. Some are expensive! As they should be for exotic and rare offerings often in 750mL bottled corked and caged... This is our favorite place to go out. For the people, the atmosphere, the selection, the BEER! | | markwise (56), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida | | June 11, 2008 I went here based on ratings from ratebeer and I was not disappointed. This place is tiny and they are expanding, but the new place is not open yet. There are only 7 tables and the bar. The selection is very good, but the prices are not. $15 for 120 Minute and $9 for an Orval. I understand the price of craft beer, but DANG. They had beers from De Dolle, DFH, and some rarities. Bartender was very helpful and very quick to get us another. I would go back. | uoffgator (1), Miami, Florida does not count - explanation | | May 7, 2008 I LOVE THIS PLACE WITH ALL MY HEART. ALWAYS HAVE, AND ALWAYS WILL! | DowntownGator (1), Florida does not count - explanation | | January 11, 2008 If only Stubbies was around when I was in college, I may have learned something about good beer. Boasting over 400 different brews from all over the world, Stubbies has by far has the most comprehensive and varied beer selection in town, whether bar or store. Enhancing the experience are the ariety of beautiful glasses, goblets, chalices, and tulip glasses beer is served in.
The 100+ T-shirts hanging on the walls are absolutely hilarious, and all are original creations of Gar Hoflund, the owner connoisseur. Makes for some fun conversation.
In less than 30 days, Stubbies will in effect expand and triple in size due to the opening of an authentic German Bierre Halle next door. On good authority I understand its name will be Steins. Decorating the walls are hand panted regional coats of arms from all over Germany, beer glass collections, Cookoo Clocks from the Black Forest, Germany , hand woven tapestries, and German style eating arrangements (picnic tables under a tent). Round personal standing bar tables sit on top of oak beer barrels, and a beautiful awning overhangs the large bar area. Authentic German food will be offered, a wine list, and the Beer selection will expand to over 700 beers.
And they still won’t sell Bud Lite, Budweiser, Coors, Coors Light, or any other mass produced domestic imitation beer!
Amazing!
| tmfi (4), Gainesville, Florida does not count - explanation | | February 18, 2007 By far my favorite bar here in town, the only problem is space, the place is incredibly small and get very crampped on the weekends. They say they are expanding both the space and the menu, I for one can’t wait! |
