| Rastacouere (475), Montréal, Quebec | | October 23, 2009 Just about a 10-minute drive from Les Brasseurs du Temps, this might be the second best beer place in the Ottawa area. We were there in the summer and with the terrace available, it felt a bit like a European biergarten, very relaxed, everybody chatting and having a beer on a picnic table. Most comfortable. Inside, it’s very small and could be your aunt’s house. The selection is frankly spectacular, first because it might be the best bottle list in Quebec, second because you would not expect it in such a small suburb. The menu itself is also a fine piece of work, with detailed tasting notes including graphical taste description. Very educative for the patrons. Several rarer beers from private imports are on offer. If the selection could be improved for a Quebec beer bar, it would be with regards to Quebec micros, but their preference seems to lean towards Belgian styles. A top notch business, service included. | | Sammy (273), Toronto, Ontario | | October 7, 2009 One of a kind little beer bar, in a compliated 20-30 minute drive from Ottawa. If you are staying awhile, well worth it in terms of incredible Europen bottle menu. Among others, caught up with Gordons Scotch, and two Fantome found just about nowhere else. The bottles and detailed scores are found on their menu, with new beers arriving all the time. The tap selection, mostly Quebec based, was also interested. Small and homey atmosphere, with english and French alongside each other, true to the character of this place. | Fred82 (7), Montreal, Quebec does not count - explanation | | March 26, 2009 Really nice place. I’m really jealous that guys in Gatineau got such a nice place. Ambiance is great. some music not too loud. Their location is a bit weird as they are quite far from city centre. They do have a lot of private imports as well as LCBO and SAQ imports. The selection they have is outstanding. I had a Struise Pannepot Grand Reserva 2005 and a Cantillon Gueuze. My gf had a Timmerman Faro and a Leffe Radieuse. I discussed a bit with the waiter and he seemed quite knowledgeable about his beers and when I asked something he didn’t know, he would go to his boss and get back with the answer later on. We had a plate of cheese and paté with our beers. It is a nice place to bring the gf and have a great time with her while enjoying some astonishing beers ! Rating #3 | | Glouglouburp (214), Montreal, Quebec | | March 18, 2009 Visited fall 2008. In a very quiet neighbourhood far from the lively part of town. A very small cosy pub interior and a wonderful large patio in the front. I highly recommend visiting on a nice day to take advantage of the patio. Probably the bar with the best imported (mostly Belgian) beers in the province. To me the import selection at L’Autre Oeil is better than Montreal’s Saint-Bock and other Quebec beer bars. Some examples are: Fantôme Pissenlit 750ml $17.90, Cantillon Saint-Lanvinus $29.20, De Dolle Oeral $8.75. The draft selection however is rather disappointing. Not only they only have about 12 tap lines but many of them are used by the boring Grolsh, Newcastle and the common Unibroue, MacAuslan, etc. A definite lack of good Quebec micros on tap. Even in bottles the quebec micros are not well represented. I talked to two staff, one was totally confused and knew nothing about beer and the other one was a very knowledgeable beer enthusiast. Overall, a must if in the area.
| | LadySusan (77), Ste-Therese, Quebec | | November 22, 2007 This is a very charming place, not to big so the atmosphere is pleasant. The food is good but not to many choices. The service is pleasant and the people are very knowledgable about the beers and they do have some many to chose from. This place should be on your list if you are in the area. | french tickler (1), Aylmer, Quebec does not count - explanation | | December 14, 2006 Very cozy atmosphere. Staff is very knowledgable, most of them we’re trained by renowned Quebec Beerologist Mario Deer. Selection is now over 200 beers from all over the world. Very good prices as well. Excellent overall satisfaction. Best Beers i’ve tasted there, Rochefort 10 and 8, Westmalle Tripel, St-Bernadus ABT 12 and the list goes on and on, they even have some Uniboue 10 left dating back 2002 | | Diogène (25), Gatineau, Quebec | | September 17, 2006 [ Updated October 16, 2009 ] Beautifull place, in an ancestral house. good selection of beers, by far the best in Gatineau and similar to Pub Italia in the great Ottawa region. Good service, staff is pretty knowledgeable. Definitely a place to visit. Selection has improved steadiy in the last few ears. At my last visit in october 09, they had over 450 beers on the menu. |
