| Johnsense (33), , | | January 7, 2012 Its still Jovi to me. Small grocery store with a bit of character. When the beer people are here the service is great. Otherwise - you’re on your own. GREAT sleection of Unibroues. DDC, LTM, etc. are all here - missing the tougher Quebec beers (Hopfenstark, Trou du Diable) Prices about what La Trappe charges. Discounts on Unibroue bombers. A bit further out of the way but this is the place to go for Unibroue. | | kevinsenn (31), Waterloo, Ontario | | October 17, 2011 Great selection of Quebec microbrews at a reasonable price. An employee was nice enough to take me into the back room to show me the not-yet-shelved selection of Dieu du Ciel beers just delivered. | | rejtable (25), Ontario | | October 14, 2011 An ok bottle shop. Used to have a great selection, but seems now they have lots of bottles of the same thing. Like the way Blockbuster used to make it look like they had a lot of movies by having 58 copies of the same thing. Still, most of the big PQ crafts make it here. Worth a stop if you are in the area. | | pushkinwow (54), Ottawa, Ontario | | February 9, 2011 Find that Omni has gone down hill over the last couple of years but this maybe biased based on a comparison to Broue Haha which is totally dedicated to beer. Regardless this is a small supermarket with a good beer section in the back. If the owner is around he is very passionate and usually has some stuff in the back that may not be on display - the rest of the staff have little to no knowledge about beer. Have a decent selection of Quebec micros but not necessarily a huge amount, nor the best selection of the seasonals or limited releases. Great value on some standards though (2 750ml unibroue for $10, 6-pack of St Ambrouise Oatmeal for $9). | lagrange (1), does not count - explanation | | July 17, 2010 This place is the premier depot for Ontario bierophiles who can’t find decent micros on the Ontario side. The proprietor, Marcel, is the key to this operation. He is a keen bierophile and seeks out the best Quebec micros. Sometimes his stock is down, especially Bieropholie, but he keeps his eye on Dieu du Ciel, which is the best Quebec micro, bar none. I love the place and hope Marcel continues to maintain his watch on the Quebec scene. Bon succes, Marcel! | | MXD (12), Gatineau/St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec | | July 4, 2010 [ Updated July 23, 2010 ] Dep/Grocery. Standard stuff + Quebec micros, both warm and chilled. They had all Brasseries de la Nouvelle France, Maitre Brasseur, Dieu du Ciel, le Corsaire, and the ones from l’Ile d’Orléans which I can’t never remember the name, amongst others They also had lots of Breughel stuff. They tend to have LOTS of some brewers here and there, and really few of others ones -- only to be completely different a few weeks later. Still, pretty interesting selection. Staff didn’t seem especially knowledgeable, but I don’t remember going there before 8PM. Prices are competitive, but that’s it : still, you have to remember that Gatineau might just be the most expensive "region" in Quebec, as far as bars aren’t concerned (e.g. : l’Autre Oeil). A must if you live in the region.
NOTE : The map shown makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
EDIT : Just had a chat with Marcel. Cool guy. | | TheJester (33), Peterborough, Ontario | | March 28, 2010 Not called Marché Jovi any more, but I don’t remember what it’s changed to. Damn you, dead brain cells. About 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa. Anyhow, it’s a big dep with a beer/wine section in the back. Clean, well lit, and friendly, with sufficient, convenient parking - a rarity in this province. Nice selection of Quebec micros, both warm and chilled. Prices seem competitive. had a nice little conversation with Marcel, the proprietor, and he even helped me carry the beer out to my mini-van. Great guy, and he seems very interested in the beer scene. I wish him well. Nice place. | kruddov (6), Quebec does not count - explanation | | February 5, 2010 Little grocery/convenience store that sell several Quebec micros such as Unibroue, Dieu du Ciel, Trois mousquetaire, RJ, Bièropholie and others. It’s pretty hard to find some of these in the region so I appreciate having this place close by. | | Sammy (408), Toronto, Ontario | | October 7, 2009 Basically a grocery convenience store, with several Quebec brewers well represented. A decent place, more than your regular supermarket, for beer. Otherwise nothing special even for Quebec. A few seasonals and bombers. | | MrManning (55), London, Ontario | | September 14, 2009 A small and unassuming grocery store in a quaint section of Gatineau. Beer selection is large for the size of the store. Lots of Quebec micros including DDC, Maitre Brass, Trois Mousq, Brughel, Unibroue, et al. Decent prices, especially on Unibroue bombers. I grabbed a DDC 12 pack for about $18.00. Service was friendly enough, our cashier spoke no English, so she went and got someone who did, and all was well. I’ll be back for sure. |
