Nice beer list, not excessive but interesting. Always a lot of Dupont beers along other biological beers. Some "regular" ones as Maes and Grimbergen for the boring people. Good food at reasonable prices. But everything is self-service. You go to the bar to place your order, pay and get your drinks. Then you wait until your "beeper" goes off and you go get your plate at the kitchen counter. Always nice to go for lunch on a work day.

Vooruit is an arts centre with a concert hall, theatre and café housed in an early 20th century building owned by the Vooruit Cooperative. It’s just south of the city centre and well worth a visit for the architecture alone. The café is a bit like an upmarket art deco student refectory and it’s very spacious, occupying three adjoining rooms. At the front there’s a huge lobby area with a stage, large mirrors adding to the sense of space and a tiled staircase leading down to the toilets; in the middle is the bar area, the entrance of which is flanked by two statues of stooped figures on either side supporting the ceiling; and at the back there’s a third splendid airy room with a staircase and a glass skylight with a very attractive leaf and flower pattern border. There are marble topped tables and, in the middle room, a long table down the centre. If I were in Gent for any length of time, I might make this my base as it’s a pleasant place to be (although it can be very busy when the theatre throws out), it serves good food at a reasonable price and has free wifi. The beer list isn’t particularly long but it’s certainly interesting. There are 33cl bottles of two Oxfam beers (blond and bruin) alongside five biobieren and six trappist ales as well as three 75cl bottles: Dupont Bon Voeux, Dupont Cervesia and Dupont La Biere de Beloeil – all delicious and perfect for sharing with friends, as we did when we went there with Jackie and Simon. In addition there are six taps which include three from Gruut, the brewpub just round the corner (blond, amber and bruin). (Last visited 11 June 2011).
