| beeroverwithme (29), Tønsberg, Norway | | February 6, 2012 The Bishop’s Arms in Västra Hamngatan is the oldest one of the Bishop’s Arms franchise in Göteborg and I must have been there a dozen times over the last six years. Until now I have thought of it as a great beer bar, but after their recent renovations I sense that beer has been pushed into the background and the focus has turned to whisky and wine. As before, the selection on draft mainly consists of English bitters and international lagers, but now the odd Danish or American craft beer is missing. And the former beer refrigerators have been reduced to small cabinets almost on floor level, as if they’ve been hidden behind the bar. And though there still were many decent bottles in there, it wasn’t like it used to. Add to this a pretty noisy and crowded bar (no changes there, since the renovation) you end up with a place that holds little charm for a beer trotter - there are several better beer bars in Göteborg. Last visit: Feb 3, 2012. | | sebletitje (200), Enghien, Belgium | | September 5, 2011 Situated in a cellar style under street level. Decor is typical to the three Bishops in Gothenburg, British classical style with booths giving a nice little privacy in a semi library feel.
Nice beer selection on draft and bottles and great to see that each location actually does offer different beers to chose from. Value is typical of bars offering these hard to get beers in Sweden. | | finol (27), Stockholm, Sweden | | August 1, 2011 Generous hours and comfy arm chairs. Friendly and interested staff on my visit. Smaller selection on draft and botttle than the bishops I usualy visit in stockholm, lots of belgians and a few Närke. | | Fungrim (12), Stockholm, Sweden | | July 30, 2010 Best BA in Gothenburg. Cozy, and very good service. The staff taught me everything I know about whisky, and they do have a very good whisky shelf to pick from. Food is decent, but it does get a bit loud late weekend nights. | | Riggwelter (26), UPPSALA, Sweden | | April 11, 2010 A cosy place with international clientèle and a standard Bishops Arms selection and interior. Good service, but a menu which is not worth its name. It is a pub, yes, but certainly not a restaurant. | | AlbertC (15), Göteborg, Sweden | | December 10, 2009 Best Bishops Arms in Göteborg. Very nice interior. | | Nisse666 (64), Göteborg, Sweden | | September 30, 2009 Best BS in Gbg! Nice food an interior. Cozy wee "roooms". Look in the ceeling for the boat! | | MrBeachtwig (13), Sandared, Sweden | | January 24, 2009 Best Bishops Arms I have visited. Good selection on tap with several nice Swedish micros and very good selection on bottle with a lot of rare beers. Very nice personal with good knowledge. | | stouby (68), Holbæk, Denmark | | February 18, 2008 Visited several times.
The beers are ok, fine selection and ok rooms. The only problem is the prices!. | | oh6gdx (139), Vasa, Finland | | January 10, 2008 [ Updated June 20, 2010 ] I’ve visited all three TBA’s in Gothenburg, I would say Västra Hamngatan is the coziest and has the best selection. The one at Järntorget has a nice terrace summertimes. Good service, and the staff seemed to know pretty much what is served and where to find it. Prices were a little bit higher than at many other pubs, but not disturbingly so. |
