| rumproasts (34), Grand Rapids, Michigan | | May 3, 2012 Probably more of a restaurant than a bar, but it’s a restaurant with a very outstanding tap list. everything is available in flights also, which is awesome. kind of an odd location, but worth finding. | | cratez (100), London, Ontario | | December 27, 2011 [ Updated December 28, 2011 ] Final stop on a recent trip to Grand Rapids with nicktbm and our better halves.
Atmosphere: classic and pristine British pub, long wooden bar, numerous comfy booths, tap handles loom over the restaurant area, chalkboard shows all draught and cask offerings, hilarious posters in the washrooms, table-side lamps add a unique touch.
Service: staff seemed a bit withdrawn on this lazy Sunday afternoon but our waitress did a commendable job of describing the beers and everything arrived in reasonable time. She also gave us plenty of privacy in between drinks.
Selection: had an Arcadia Whitsun Wheat Ale with Hibiscus on cask and a North Peak Diabolical IPA out of the bottle. Both beers were in top form and my girlfriend enjoyed her pint of Delirium Tremens. Other standouts were Avery 18th Anniversary Ale, Blue Point Toasted Lager, Ommegang Belgian Saison, and Lagunitas IPA on tap. Very well-rounded menu.
Food: remarkable fare that exceeded our expectations. Ordered the House Salad, Chicken Tikka Masala, Bangalore Quesadilla, and Mackinaw Island Fudge, all of which were phenomenal. Each dish had an immaculate presentation and the free papadum was a nice surprise. They really nail the "England meets India" theme.
Overall: Graydon’s is an archetype British pub that I will gladly revisit on future trips to the city. The attention to detail - from the pairing suggestions to the food descriptions to the style classifications on the beer list - is second to none. I highly recommend this bar. | | bruwery (21), Lowell, Michigan | | November 22, 2011 [ Updated November 23, 2011 ] I fell in love with this place right away. I’d heard Graydon’s Crossing had a good beer selection, but I wasn’t expecting 48 taps! Good stuff, too. Delirium Tremens, Breckenridge Vanilla Porter, Left Hand Fade to Black, Stone Arrogant Bastard, Lagunitas IPA, and more. By my count, 21 of the taps were Michigan beers. They maintain a very nice bottle selection, too.
The food was more unique than the average bar, with a heavy emphasis on English and Indian dishes, and a good value for the amount on my plate.
it’s a quiet setting, designed for good conversation with friends.
The bartender was prompt and courteous, and never left me sitting with an empty glass. I didn’t test her beer knowledge, so I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt until my next visit and update this as appropriate.
...and there most certainly will be a next time.
| slipy120 (6), Michigan does not count - explanation | | July 11, 2011 I feel this place is severely underrated. More beer than one could ever dream of, good food, plenty of games for entertainment, sizable beer sampler platters, etc. Our first time here was amazing. Bar staff was exceptional and helpful. The beer and liquor menu was massive. Loved it! | | amg800 (38), Ada, Michigan | | June 7, 2011 Great currys and english style food, they know how to make something spicey and delicious thats for sure. Decent beer selection. Service needs to attentiveness training, sometimes they really don’t earn their tip... | BeNobleDark (7), Allendale, Michigan does not count - explanation | | October 21, 2010 Great little bar. Awesome selection, the food is very bar-oriented, prices are a little high, but still a great place to hop over too if given the opportunity! | | Tmoney99 (331), Cincinnati, Ohio | | September 16, 2010 Easy to find location notrh of downtown. Clean parking lot next to building. Remodeled building with entrance in the front and bar on left. Tables on the side and back for food. New patio on south side of building. Friendly staff. Good selection of beers on tap. Good upscale lunch menu. I had a sandwich, Very good. Well worth the visit and I will go again. | | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | July 24, 2010 Located north of downtown in a rather nondescript neighborhood. Nice decor... lots of wood. Kind of an English Pub vibe. The place is small, and it seems parking is ample. It was completely dead when I entered around 2:00 but it filled up quickly. Customer service and the food were both fairly average but the beer list is awesome. Lots of taps with a good range of foreign beers, US micros, Michigan beers and just one or two macros. Lots of bottles to choose from also. Prices were decent. Nice place to grab a drink. | | bigtaster (32), Grand Rapids, Michigan | | July 25, 2009 Nice little place just north of downtown. Irish style pub with a good selection of Michigan micro’s and many others. Inviting with a friendly staff. Wish it was downtown but definitely worth stopping by. | | drunkysersose (11), Michigan | | April 19, 2009 Pretty cool place in a pretty uncool part of town. At least the parking is adjacent to the bar and you don’t need to pack heat while walking to and from the door. A little smokey for my taste. Nice outdoor patio for the warmer months. I had a BLT sandwich that could have been served in a high school cafeteria. Beer selection should satisfy most beer lovers. Worth a visit if you are in the immediate area, not bothered by smoke and want pub grub. |
