| deyholla (90), Waukesha, Wisconsin | | May 17, 2012 Stopped in once to try a few beers and grab a six pack. A large restaurant with a bar off in another room. Only one or two draft only beers on tap with bottles available for sale. Didn’t try the food. Service was fine but weren’t to sure about the beers. Prices were quite nice. | | AguynamedTodd (75), Illinois | | September 2, 2011 Been to this place several times. Food variety is better than most brewpubs. Beers are ok. Service was slow and unattentative. I guess the server felt if you come in alone you’re not going to want anything. Hostess was more interested in texting than greeting or seating guests. | Justibone (9), Indianapolis, does not count - explanation | | January 9, 2011 Ambiance is a typical brewpub, but in the summers you can request an outside table out back, which I recommend. The service, price and food taste/quality are all pretty much typical for a brewpub, but if you sit at the bar you will be well taken care of. The selection of their beers is broad, and they do have other brews available if none of theirs tickles your fancy. Overall a great place to stop if you are on the South Side, but we don’t go there very often because it is pretty far out of the way. | | cblack85 (21), Fort Mill, South Carolina | | September 21, 2010 While in Indy I stumbled onto this place and decided to give it a try.
Typical brewpub feel, the brewing operation was visible through windows. Ample seating with several televisions playing sports stations. Unfortunately we were seated in an area where the brewhouse was not visible.
The food was average, lots of choices, but average at best. The beer menu was decent for a small brewpub, I think there were 5 or 6 beers available. My wife had the sampler, and I had the Indiana Amber. The amber was decent, a little forgetable, but not bad. Among the beers on the sampler was a belgian witbier, an APA, a porter, a rasberry wheat fruit beer, and the amber. The belgian witbier was OK at best, but I would not order it again, and the Rasberry wheat beer was pretty bad. The APA and the porter were decent. Unfortunately, they did not have any guest taps, so if you are less than blown away by thier offerings you are out of luck...
The service was disappointing, our server knew nothing about the beer, and rarely checked on us to see if we needed anything else. I think they need to do a better job at training thier staff on the beers that they offer.
Overall this place was not bad, but it was far from stellar. None of the beers were good enough to draw be back in there for a repeat visit. | | kiefdog (118), Tampa, Florida | | February 24, 2010 We have visited here several times on trips to Indiana, and I have never been terribly impressed with the beer. It is a good and solid brewpub, but the beer is only very drinkable and not exceptional. The food is above average and the service has always been prompt. Wide selection of menu items and usually 4-6 beers on at a time. I will agree that the prices are reasonable for what you receive food and beer-wise. Definitely worth a stop when in Greenwood. | misterbeer (5), greenwood, Indiana does not count - explanation | | February 21, 2010 all the craft beers the oaken barrel has are pretty darn good and all are priced the same $3.50 a good deal compared to other places. The food is great and lots to chose from. | | alleycat (13), Indiana | | February 6, 2010 Food good. Some good beers. Service a little lacking. | | tjthresh (83), Greenfield, Indiana | | July 12, 2009 A bit out of the way. Service was friendly and helpful. Food was pretty good. Beer was average, and you don’t get everything with the sampler. I probably won’t see this place much. | | sigma23 (10), , Maine | | April 4, 2009 took me a while to find this place, but im glad i did. great food with good beer and good service. great way to spend a few hours on a lazy saturday. check it out | | Monroe1ato (11), Indiana | | January 27, 2009 Hometown brewery and a family restaurant, but the beer flavored artwork balances this well. OB’s food is pretty darn good and service is quick and friendly. Try the Gnaw bone Pale Ale and Superfly IPA. If you are not afraid of the dark, try the Snake Pit Porter will make you smile Other beers include Indiana Amber, Razz-Wheat, and Uberweizen but are not my favorite brews, yet are excellent beers for their style. |
