| MMR (10), , Netherlands | | March 13, 2012 Fantastic bar with great Belgian-like atmosphere, very friendly service and a great selection of beers. | | baxterfish (125), , England | | September 28, 2011 Great little cafe with mostly Belgian beers, although they have all the regular beers from T’Ij and most from Jopen. The food is excellent and the daily specials are great value. The artwork is disturbing especially the two zombies screaming at the robot. Highly recommended. | | deanso (103), the Hague, Netherlands | | May 13, 2011 Ate here with a friend, on our way to the Jopenkerk. Good food for a very reasonable price. Quite good service. A fairly good selection of Belgian beers and also some local Jopen beers. A good experience | | Boudicca (205), London, England | | April 25, 2011 We called in here for a spot of dinner on our way back to the station on a day trip out from Amsterdam. It’s a typical small brown café with a dark wood ceiling and low lighting. It was quite busy, with some people eating at the scrubbed pine tables and others relaxing at the bar, presumably after a hard day at the office. Space was at a premium but we found a nice table at the back, close to the kitchen serving hatch. At some stage during our visit one of the bar staff came and moved a machine (it might have been a fridge) from just behind me and erected a little barrier with hazard signs around what turned out to be the hatch down into the cellar.
The beer list wasn’t extensive but I see from my bill that we had the special tap – one of a range of guest beers that apparently change on a monthly basis. The food was very good – hearty and tasty, including the daily special (daghap), which was excellent value at E7.50.
This was just the kind of place I’d had in mind to go to the night before when we ate at the Lieve in Amsterdam.
| schuim11 (3), , Netherlands does not count - explanation | | May 13, 2010 More restaurant than bar but Bruxelles has an big selection of bottled beers. As the name suggests the range is mainly Belgium beer. Not many micro and craft breweries in stock, most are medium sized Belgiums. They do have some botteld IJ and Jopen beers. | | Borresteijn (97), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | December 4, 2008 Two-story brown café in an alley just 2 minutes from the main square Grote Markt. Up - and downstairs are not too big. Dark interior, there is an expo of a different artist covering the walls every month. Most visitors come here to eat, and so did we. Small but nice menu, good prices. Nice beer selection, but nothing really special. A real Belgian bar though, so worth a visit when you are in Haarlem.
