| rejtable (25), Ontario | | August 19, 2011 Great store, and great selection, especially in Atlantic Canada. Prices are sky high though, one real big downside from where I sit. Still, I give them credit for trying and I don’t mind paying extra for quality or different experirences. | | HeistAlmighty (10), Saint John, New Brunswick | | June 6, 2011 The name might be wines, but the whole section just inside the mall entrance is beer. Long hours, 10am to 8pm seven days a week.
This location pretty much completely lacks macros, but there’s really no need for them to be carried. Premier mostly carries craft brews, either local Propeller or Garrison and a wide variety from Quebec, with a small but varied selection of international brews. Most of their stock is either hard or impossible to find anywhere else in Atlantic Canada.
The staff did not seem surprised that I was stocking up on my way back to New Brunswick and helpfully gave me a wine box to carry all my finds back to my car.
Of note, they have an online catalog, but the catalog lists some selections as being sold only in 4, 6 or 12 packs. While this is the case for online orders, in the store, as far as I could tell, everything was available as singles. Buying larger packs was a better value, but if you want a wide variety or to try something before committing to 5 more this was very exciting. | | ontbeermaker (127), Ontario | | May 11, 2011 Definitely worth the stop here for the local seen and other awesome canadian brews, not many imports, a few belgians. But its got a really nice selection of of cdn brews. nice staff, good stop, glad I when here, if your in there area and looking for a good selection of halifax brews, recommend a stop here | | BuckeyeBoy (85), Boise, Idaho | | July 5, 2010 Stopped in to fill my cart with Canada’s finest and I was not let down. The best selection of beer I hit while in Canada by a mile. A pretty good selection from all over. | TheCommodore (9), Ontario does not count - explanation | | May 20, 2010 The selection here is a decent selection, with some okay quality beer.
Staff not very knowledgeable or helpful. Location can be difficult to find if not local. | | Atheist_Peace (16), Halifax, Nova Scotia | | April 27, 2010 [ Updated January 31, 2011 ] Easily the go to place for beer in the Atlantic/Maritime provinces. These guys seem to have figured out that there’s nothing out there for the beer loving community and filled the niche well. A lot of the selection is currently from Quebec based brewers - DDC, Unibroue, Brasseurs de Montreal (which I hadn’t even heard of until these guys started selling them) - with a few American crafts, Belgians and locals. I have it on pretty good authority they’ll be getting some Scottish brews soon. The service is usually top notch most of the time. A few of the people that work here obviously really dig their beer but others don’t seem to know a thing about it. | | Bendrixian (13), Halifax, Nova Scotia | | April 9, 2010 [ Updated February 13, 2012 ] by nova scotia standards it is the bomb. rocheforts and westmalles are in. some central city beers, dieu du ciel in abundance, rogues, north coast. i hear lagunitas are coming in, as are some brew dog beers, as well as all the usual suspects from the east coast.
nova scotia is crazy expensive to buy alcohol in but as far as the selection goes it is great for non generic beers. | | Lubiere (349), Ottawa, Ontario | | October 19, 2009 This is probably the best bottle shop in Halifax. Excellent serive with beer knowledgeable staff, DDC available, good selection of NS and NB beers, ciders...gives the NSLC a run for its money. Its located in City Centre, right next to Pete’s Frootique (toodeloo). | | Spab (34), Toronto, Ontario | | August 19, 2009 Popped in while in Halifax on a trip out east. Some good unique stuff available especially east coast (Garrison, Propeller and Pump House), DDC beers and a smattering of interesting US stuff. Certainly a number of things one’s not finding in the LCBO. Thought the layout was a little odd - no apparent logic to the beer layout. Really good value on Canadian beers, less so on the US ones. Glad I stopped in. | | mabel (211), Toronto, Ontario | | April 25, 2009 Visited on a Sunday after in November, I picked up most of my return-trip items here. It’s surprising how crappy some of the beers are, next to ones that absolutely amazing. The goods included tons of Nova Scotia brews (Propellor, Garrison), many Rogue bombers, and there were a couple nasty ’finds’ but overall a great place to stock up. The staff was especially surprised at our haul, asking if ALL of them were different?! -- and then bugged out at our final total (~$100, mostly reasonable). Guess they’re used to students coming by filling up on cases. |
