Solid boozer that had a great range of casks in top condition. The Windermere Pale is the best 3.5% beer you can get.

Visited September 2013. Busy place with a nice selection of cask ales from a well-maintained system. great decor - place used to be a toffee shop. Veggie options available.

A must for any cask ale aficionado, this pub sports more cask pumps than keg, and the beer and ales on the kegs are certainly not the standard stuff you’ll find in 95% of public houses in Britain. This is a two-roomed open plan pub with the bar in the first room after you enter the central to the building doorway. Here an ‘L’ shaped bar has first a small row of ales, followed by a greater selection on its longer part, most of which will rotate, although several breweries will always be represented with one of their beers at one one time. It’s a lovely relaxed all wooden venue in terms of decor, fittings and furniture most of the seating area around its sides that do appeal, the odd table stuck in the middle of the floor is slightly less atmospheric, but by no reason any reason to give this place a miss if in Harrogate. There’s a couple of hundred past ale clips on the walls and ceiling, but it only looks like they’ve just got started with this, so the vast majority of building is clear and it may take a decade or two for it all to get decorated in this fashion.

all decked out with dark wooden floor, bar and tables. lots of light from the big windows. a good selection of well kept beer at reasonable prices. Andy must be in the running for grumpiest landlord in England, he gives the distinct impression that he’d rather be doing something else, but he keeps a good pint.
