| Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | April 7, 2011 Nice little bottle shop. More geared towards wine, but there is a long cooler of craft beer on the left, as well as a smattering elsewhere. Good selection of foreign, US and micro. I got a Hoppin Frog DORIS which was cool. Prices seemed to be a bit on the high side, but not unreasonable. Staff was nice enough. Parking is fine, as its in a strip mall. | | nearbeer (144), Knoxville, Tennessee | | September 4, 2008 [ Updated October 30, 2010 ] This takes 15 minutes or so to get to if you’re passing through on I-40 as I was, but I was not disappointed. Everything was in refrigerated glass cases and the younger lady who works there was very nice and knowledgeable. The owner was very nice as well, but I think her specialty is the wine. She told me they have tastings every week which are well attended. Pretty good local representation and a few imports I haven’t seen elsewhere. Reasonable prices, but no breaking sixes. | | darn1207 (59), Tallahassee, Florida | | May 28, 2008 [ Updated August 23, 2011 ] Cool place. I was a little shocked to find such an establishment in Hickory. They have a good selection with many of the local Carolina and Georgia beers. Last time I was there I got Victory Hop Wallup, Terrapin Wake-n-Bake Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout and Terrapin Side Project Hop Shortage Ale. 8/2011: I’ve been here several times now, but usually many months apart. They always seem to have a new and extensive selection of the local brews - which is a big plus. The other domestic micros are what you’d expect for the area: hoppin frog, avery, victory, etc. Stylish store too. Pretty great for a small town shop. | | wilkie (37), Raleigh, North Carolina | | December 30, 2007 Very nice service, offered to order beer for me if they could. Best selection I have seen so far in Hickville. Mostly a wine shop, there is a nice selection of craft beers from around the country as well as Germany, England, and Belgium. I REALLY wish they had more beers from western NC though. | | beernoevil (46), Suwanee, Georgia | | August 4, 2006 A beer oasis in an otherwise beer-starved area. As mentioned before, it’s actually a gourmet wine store but it has a very respectable and well organized beer selection. They won’t break 6-packs for singles but it is still woth the stop if you find yourself in Hickory. | jnhager (1), does not count - explanation | | September 22, 2005 If you can find it, this place has warm, inviting feeling when you first walk in. Although they carry wine, and gourmet food, they do not skimp on the beer. Along one side of the wall is covered with a row of coolers just filled with numerous craft and import beers. There easily at least over 300 different beers to choose from such as Rogue, Flying Dog, Chimay, Spaten, etc. If your in the Hickory area, definitely check then out. |
