| Alphadelic (48), Portland, Oregon | | May 24, 2012 A must visit on any trip to Hood River. The staff are wonderful and happy to chat as you sit at the bar. They are attentive and will keep your growler chilled if you decide to stay for a glass or two. The food looked great and I have heard marvelous things about their pizza, though I am yet to indulge. All their beer are stella, especially their wonderful sours which are among the best I have tasted in the USA. | | soul11man (54), Portland, Oregon | | August 14, 2011 Great place for a pint in Hood River. It would be fun to kick back and see a band here on a friday night. When I was here though it was fairly crowded and the service we got was pretty lame. I waited a very long time with an empty glass, never catching a glimpse of our waitress. Then my check was all screwed up and it took quite a while to fix. It came to me wrong twice. She ended up comping me a beer which was nice but the whole process was very confusing and took too long. The beer selection was great and it seemed a fun place to hang. I enjoyed the vegetarian options on the menu as well. | | pdxlover (12), Washington | | October 3, 2010 Finally got to Double Mountain’s taproom after enjoying their beers in Olympia, WA for a while now. They had their usual beers on tap plus their Kriek and two seasonals, a really good oktoberfest type malty lager & a pale ale "vaporizer" that was pretty good. I do like their beer generally and it was all good, My low rating comes from two things - (1) the service is horrible - makes the service at Big Horse across town look attentive. I sat at the bar along with another person - no one else at the bar - and were ignored for 10 minutes. Then after I finally was able to order, and get food (an excellent meatball sandwich) the woman told me I owed about 3x what I thought because she put the other people that were sitting near me for a few minutes (& had since gone outside to a table) on my tab and actually didn’t believe me when I kept telling her I did not know them and I should only be charged for my beer/food. (2) The second issue is I asked if they had a sampler platter & she told me yes, and proceeded to pour 4 ounce samples. Cool - except nowhere do they mention that they are charged individually and they charge $3.50 for a couple of their beers, so the sampler ended up costing almost $15. When I complained, saying that seemed really expensive I was told "well thats b/c they are a bunch of little glasses, you should have just asked for tastes of each" (pints were only $4, so I basically paid for 4 pints but got a pint & 1/2). Pretty annoying on top of the lousy service in the first place. | einsteinstoe (1), Mccall, Idaho does not count - explanation | | December 26, 2009 Love the tap room! Ive been in 4 times now on my travels thru and its one of my favorite small brewery’s, hence the great score. The beer of course is the biggest attraction....mmmm Hop Lava! Ive gone solo, with old friends (on the way back from Pearl Jam) and with my wife. Everyone LOVED the beer and the vibe.
I still need to sneak in a brewery tour.
Cheers! | | BuckeyeBoy (85), Boise, Idaho | | May 2, 2009 Stopped in on our way to HOTD Dock Sale. A very nice little place. A nice sampler on along with a BB brew. The food was tasty a nice pizza. A good price overall. You got a stop in and test it out. | | boFNjackson (72), Portland, Oregon | | January 20, 2009 This is a great place. Typical Oregon brewpub feel. Lots of their own beers on tap with about five that I haven’t seen around Portland. There food prices were really reasonable and their servings were huge (not to mention the sandwiches and brats we all got were amazing!). Our server was friendly and on top of everything. We had gotten there by around quarter to one in the afternoon and it was pretty quiet, by the time we left it was jammed pack with locals and travelers -- I’m pretty sure that I recognized some people from around Portland bars there. | | 3fourths (962), Boulder, Colorado | | December 29, 2008 [ Updated April 19, 2009 ] Awesome little taproom and eatery just around the corner from Full Sail (Double Mountain was actually started by some Full Sail folks). Food is pizzas and sandwiches, beer is 4-5 regulars with 2-3 specials, which range from the mildly interesting to the ridiculously delicious. Double Mountain is becoming one of the hot new breweries in Oregon, and in little time I expect them to be well known nationally in the beer scene. Some stellar experimental and blended beers being produced these days. The taproom is a popular place for weekend skiers and travelers, so even outside of lunch hours it may be difficult to find a spot to sit, but for sure you will drink some amazing beer on your visit. | | beerinmarch (118), Washington | | October 5, 2008 Small little pub about a block from Full Sail. It turns out this place is a bit bigger then I thought at first, there is a side dining room, but I wasn’t sure if they were seating people there, I just took a spot at the bar. The menu was small, but the sandwich I had was pretty decent. The beers were good, they had 8 on tap. Overall a good place, friendly staff that will talk to you about beer and the local scene. The prices were very high though, I was charged $4.50 for a half pint, so my tab was $12.00 for a sandwich and half pint. | | spikester (11), Salem, Oregon | | September 16, 2008 College Beer drinkers ambience. Not a bad thing, just casual. I just went for a growler fill but was quite tempted to stay awhile. Friendly people and looks like a good place to spend some time. Beers (on tap) seemed to be their own brews which is just fine considering how good their product is. Food menu looked a bit high-brow for my tastes but they do offer a pastrami sandwich that would be one of my faves. Good weather includes a very informal cluster of chairs and tables outside which blocks the sidewalk. There was a good-sized crowd there for a Monday early evening. The barmaid was nice looking, friendly, and efficient. What more could you want! | | Angeloregon (11), Portland, Oregon | | August 31, 2008 Small taproom in downtown Hood River close to the other two, Full Sail and Big Horse. Look and feel of a coffee house with a side garage-esque lounge area for additional seating and darts. Interesting artwork adorn the walls. Clean and succinct. Nothing special, but far from bad. The beer is the reason to visit. Great hoppy offerings. Most of these beers are available in Portland, so there’s not a lot of incentive to make the drive unless you plan on hopping over to Big Horse, which has a great selection of beers. |
