tripel_trouble (7), Houston, Texas does not count - explanation | | May 24, 2012 The Flying Saucer is a great place to go and have a beer. Pick a beer, any beer. They probably have it. A massive beer menu coupled with a great location and you get a fun place to hang out. They have a large amount of indoor seating, but don’t let that fool you, this place fills up. Their food is nothing to write home about, average bar fare, nothing more, nothing less. If I just want to hang out and enjoy a beer I’ve probably missed elsewhere, I come to the Flying Saucer. | | deyholla (90), Waukesha, Wisconsin | | May 17, 2012 A large place with lots of seating that manages to always seem busy. Staff is helpful and usually good. Selection is great and it rotates quickly. Samplers are available. Food is so so but I do enjoy the chili cheese fries! Price are solid if not great. | | Caytinator (25), Kaiserslautern, Germany | | March 5, 2012 Great for downtown. Downtown Houston sucks, and this is a diamond in the rough. I had a better experience with the service when I sat at the bar instead of with the usual bimbo table service. Seemed like the place was hopping on a Tuesday night, some suits in the crowd. Value was good for Houston downtown. | Etrimm1987 (2), Texas does not count - explanation | | July 19, 2011 Sometimes the service is lacking because there busy but otherwise one of the biggest beers selections in Houston and if you go on the right night great prices as well. | | SPDickerman (27), Texas | | July 10, 2011 Very large beer emporium with many different taps and bottled selections. Sometimes a tiny bit pricey, otherwise really great place with attractive waitresses. They have a cover charge and is often crowded. | | gd4evr (31), Mar Vista, California | | April 23, 2011 In Houston you don’t have too many options and if you put the blinders on and just think about the beer, its a decent place.
It’s pretty cheesy overall by Colorado, California and Oregon standards.
The people are nice and fairly well informed.
Beer is served nicely. | | bleeng (102), Houston nowhere near Beersel, Texas | | March 12, 2011 Typical saucer-non smoking a plus. Great selection of up and coming Texas breweries, including 512, Jester King, Ranger Creek. Loads of other taps as already mentioned. Horrible parking-bring money. Lets the BA guys have their tastings there-good PR. Bartenders are knowledgeable and attentive when sitting at the bar-samples are available. Good beer bar. | | Jjbigtime (14), California | | March 9, 2011 Flying saucer does a lot of things right and a lot of things that make me wouder why?
You don’t need to dress the girls like that, it makes it feel like amateur hour in there.
If I wanted hooters I’d just go to hooters.
The beer selection is second to none in Houston so I go when in town, but I never feel good about it.
Food is mediocre. Atmosphere is about the same. | | n2pux (13), Houston, Texas | | February 7, 2011 My selection rating may seem a little low considering the FS most likely has the best selection in H-Town. That’s more of a reflection on the ridiculous alcohol distribution laws in Texas than the place itself. They do the best they can considering they’re handicapped by the state ...which is pretty dang good as it turns out. I’ve had beers from 4 of the Trappist breweries there as well as some well-aged gems like DFH Fort & Stone Bourbon-Barrel RIS. It must be pretty good as I’ve been there enough in the last two years to be a part-time member of the local "knitting circle" & have a plate on the wall for sampling 200 brews ("I’ve not yet begun to defile myself" - by the Main Street window) ...even though I live 80 miles away. Yes, I’ve found myself waking up at a downtown hotel many times the next morning. The atmosphere is pretty good for a chain ...best early before the huge crowd shows up. The food is better-than-average pub grub. The service is usually excellent - bartenders Aaron, Adam, Ivey, & one or two others whose names slip me come to mind. The waitresses are pretty easy on the eyes & mostly do a good job. Prices are usually reasonable with a few odd overpriced offerings. Overall an excellent beer joint for the downtown Houston visitor. | | HumanBeing (10), Houston, Texas | | November 30, 2010 Great selection and awesome staff |
