| BMan1113VR (279), Los Angeles, California | | November 4, 2011 Massive warehouse. Huge selection of wines and liquors including a massive TX selection (good or bad). Beer selection seemed quite complete, but I have been out of the area for over a year. Plenty of shelves of TX stuff. A fully stocked deli area as well with some decent produce. Good prices. A worthy bottle stop for sure. | blm225 (2), Texas does not count - explanation | | September 3, 2011 Spec’s is a chain so I am rating the chain overall. Individual stores are better or worse depending on the staff and selection.
I would not rate the Smith St. store as the highest in service since other stores have more helpful staff in the beer dept. One black mark on the Smith St. store. I was buying a whole unopened case and I was forced to open the case in order to get checked out. This caused a delay and the staff did not seem to care. Since I spend thousands of dollars a year at Spec’s I do feel I am entitled to some consideration. The Smith St. store sells out of the most popular ales faster so it is a matter of timing in order to obtain some of the rarer varieties. I am actually able to obtain some of the more difficult to find ales in some of the peripheral stores with a much more sympathetic and helpful staff.
I would honestly give the Smith St. store a ranking of 65 but the other stores actually bring up the rating overall. | | dfinney23 (12), Houston, Texas | | March 25, 2011 I just unchecked the BYO 6-Pack box for Spec’s because the only beers they sell as singles are those not typically in 6-packs anyway. Spec’s still rocks, though! | | osu97gp (29), Atlanta, Georgia | | December 6, 2010 In town on buisness for a couple days and decided to check out this place. A decent selection of bombers, however I wish there had been some more singles to choose from. I will be stopping by again the next time I come to town to get more beer that I can’t get in GA. | | rougeau13 (54), Texas | | August 27, 2010 Best selection in Houston. Definitely the place to go to buy something new | bigcwood79 (1), Texas does not count - explanation | | July 9, 2010 Decent selection. Well... best selection of beer anywhere close to me. My high ratings are based solely in comparison to everything else I’ve been to in the Greater Houston area. Their best store is by far the downtown Houston location on Smith Street. As I live over an hour from this location, I lovingly refer to it as "Mecca". | | blutt59 (121), Dallas, Texas | | February 14, 2010 [ Updated July 21, 2010 ] Best selection in Texas of available brews, huge store more like a grocery, look for some hard to find stuff | | BarZigKin (29), San Antonio, Texas | | January 1, 2010 The Smith Street location is the epicenter of craft beer (bottles) availability in Texas. THE place to be for Divine releases (84 cases sold in under 12 minutes!) as well as finding any/all available beers for import into Texas. If this location doesn’t have it, then it’s probably not available in Texas. Highly recommended. | Sacrament (4), Houston, Texas does not count - explanation | | October 3, 2009 best place to buy beer in houston as far as i know, amazing selection of beer, plus good deli and other foods. | johnnysmoke (1), Houston, Texas does not count - explanation | | February 27, 2009 For the Houston area, Spec’s is the largest and best selection of beers. Texas has weird liquor laws and has limited distribution which tends to keep a lot of good beers out of Texas. |
