In the shadow of Huddersfield railway platforms, but on the opposite side of the station entrance so youíll have to walk around the historic George Hotel and under the tracks to find this pub. Itís well worth it given the large cask and keg selection that regularly rotates here and the service is good too. The pub itself is a little spartan but what fixtures and fittings exist are well kept and it has a nice enough atmosphere to it.

An exceptional pub. Good friendly atmosphere, nice staff, good selection of ales, good bottled beer selection and some nice keg beers as well.
Itís obviously quite a CAMRA friendly pub as the first thing I was asked is if Iím a CAMRA member, and when I produced my CAMRA card I got a discount. Normally itís the customer who has to ask if a CAMRA discount is available.

The rundown exterior doesnít promise much, but this place offers a pretty good selection of beer at reasonable prices. Thereís 8 casks plus another 12 beers on keg. No crap. The cask stuff was almost entirely local to Huddersfield and the surrounding area. The bottle selection was a bit disappointing. The barman explained that theyíre looking to relaunch their bottle menu soon, and are running down their current stock. Unfortunately, there was absolutely no food available on my visit. The prices were solid, the service cheery. Overall, a really nice place.

Reasonable range, busy with a great atmosphere and good service. Suffers a bit compared to what is around the town centre, but well worth visiting.

Traditional corner pub located a short walk from the town centre. Nice interior features - wooden floor, curved bar and adjoining rooms. They have 8 hand-pulls of local micro-brewed beer such as Mallinsons and two house beers brewed at Golcar. The bottle selection is rather impressive - about 40-50 bottles including NÝgne ō, Flying Dog, Hardnott to name but a few. A particular find was La Trappe oak-aged quad for only £10. All round itís very good value. The clientele is however quite male-dominated. A great balance between traditional pub and contemporary beer selection. Winner of CAMRA best area pub and I can see why.

Great pub, just a short walk form the train station. Cosy bar with plenty of choice and some more choice in the fridges in case thatís not enough. Didnít try the food, but the menuís looked mouthwatering. Some real treats for the ale drinkers here, and the feeling in the place was grand. Boardgames for the bored too...

Visited here for the first time on Saturday 23rd April 2011. Really lovely place, barman was extremely friendly and also very knowledgeable. Good range of beers further helped by there being a beer festival on. Well placed for train and for the centre of Huddersield. Definate place to visit again when up here. Came here again on the 17.03.12 really, really great place, the food looked excellent, with huge doorstep sandwiches on offer, beer choice was very good and the bottled beer selection looked extremely reasonably priced. Have upped my rating for this pub, it getís better in my opinion.
