| ads135 (49), Lawrence, | | January 21, 2012 Can’t expect much in the way of beer culture on an island in the Adriatic, but maybe that’s why this place was such a nice surprise. Not a giant selection of beers, but a good array of Belgians available in bottles. Went during the winter so it was very quiet with only some locals chatting with the bartender. | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | November 24, 2011 Visited during the summer festival when there was a portion of a symphony orchestra playing on the square. The patio of this place was ideally situated. Decent selection of interesting enough local and Belgian beers. | | visionthing (114), Oslo, Norway | | September 9, 2011 It wouldn’t surprise me if this was the best pub on the coast of Croatia. Perfect location in Hvar town at the main square. If this place was located somewhere else in the World it migth be ordinary, but on the Balkan Peninsula this is a great place. Croatia the home of Ožujsko, is not famous for great beers. I think the dark and strong Tomislav is very good, but most of the widely available light lagers like Ožujsko and Karlovačko is pretty boring and tasteless. I enjoy drinking a good Belgian beer in beautiful surroundings on this beautiful island. | | Borresteijn (97), Amsterdam, Netherlands | | August 18, 2011 What a delight to find a place that has some decent beer in Croatia, especially on the islands! Located on the main square in Hvar on Hvar Island, just off the harbour. Inside is nothing special, small place with 2 large round tables made of wooden barrels, outside is a terrace with plenty seats. Again, nothing special, aimed at tourists, but very nice to have an Orval with great weather in a beautiful town like Hvar. Prices are around 30-35 Kuna for a bottle, say €5. |
