90 Just another Crown Liquors. |
84 A treasure chest in central Indiana....Staff is great.....
A hidden jewel, not much to see or expect from the outside or at first glance walking in....
HOWEVER.....pound for pound and by the square foot...this place is amazing.
Vast variety.....singles, sample sixes, imports, locals....found 2 different Geuze....incredible for this area....beer rating notes on shelf on special items....Tasting/Gatherings fridays at 5pm.....pricing seems better than fair....
awesome little hideaway! Go there! |
66 Did not have too many problems finding this place even though it’s on a busy highway. The person behind the counter was friendly but felt like he was watching every move I made, like I was going to steal something. Selection wasn’t nearly as good as Parti-Pak Liquors down the street. Prices were higher than I expected. I found a very nice bottle of beer for $34.99 but found it at another place for $5 less. I doubt if go back to this place as I can find better service and quantity at other stores. |
88 Excellent selection. Knowledgeable staff |
88 Joe, the beer expert at the store, is extremely helpful and knowledgeable. The inside seems like little more than a seven eleven upon first entering, but the selection is pretty impressive and the prices are very reasonable. Joe’s willingness to answer any of our questions was awesome. Will definitely be visiting frequently. |
78 Joe and the crew at Crown Liquor’s on the southside of Indy, along with a strong craft, import and lambic/sour selection make the visit. They have regular tastings, are helpful in finding new beers and are priced right. Shop isn’t much to look at, but still worth dropping in. |
96 Great find! Off of 31south near Greenwood. Had never visited this store before but I was pleasantly surprised with the enourmous selection of beer in this place. Shelves are really well arranged with prices in plain sight. Killer import selection (Amager, De Dolle, Struise, etc) and a quite wonderful selection of US craft beer, along with a lot of regional and Indiana stuff. Staff was very knowledgable and anxious to help. Outdated stuff seemed pretty well under control via their "blowout" section in the cooler. Craft tastings every Friday is a big plus too! Great store. |
92 The two best aspects of purchasing at this location were the selection and the attentive and knowledgeable employees. At first, this store seems nondescript, but towards the back of the store lies a fantastic selection of American craft beers with a decent selection of Belgian and German beers. Additionally, the staff there caters to you by helping you find the best selection that will satisfy your taste and leave your wallet somewhat full. After visiting a few liquor stores, I can highly recommend this store over any in the area. |
80 (Visited 07/2009): This Crown Liquors location is situated on Hwy 31 in a strip mall and is not too far off I-65. Parking is plentiful.
The inside is not spacious but not cramped either. The beer is located in the left rear of the store both on shelves and in coolers. Mixed sixers are available, and the shelves are segregated by region.
The selection is good. Lots of regional brews from Three Floyds, Mad Anthony and other Indiana brewers plus Rogue, Stone, Bell’s, Great Lakes and others. As for imports they have a decent selection of Belgians primarily, plus some Mikkeller and other goodies.
Service here was good. I was asked if I was looking for anything in particular, and the guy who rang me up informed me about a festival the next weekend and chatted with me about the beers I purchased.
Overall this Crown is worth checking out, as probably all of them are. |
82 I had planned to go to another Crown Liquors while I was in town as I’d never visited the chain but this one was conveniently close to my hotel. There is an absolutely massive selection of beer to be had, sort of like Kahn’s, but the added bonus is that everything is available in singles. If you mention Ratebeer.com, there is a 10% discount. I scored some gems like Bells 25th anniversary ale and Bells batch 9000. The downside of this store is that most of the stock is ancient. Nearly anything that had a date stamp on it was way out of date so I passed on many otherwise appealing IPA and IIPA’s. The selection is just so sheerly huge that there will still be good options where freshness is not of concern. Good prices on most of the beer too. |
