| DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | July 25, 2011 Typical Wegman’s beer selection: Not as good as you’d get in a bottle shop, a hell of a lot better than the typical grocery or convenience store. I always appreciate the make your own sixer. I do wish they had a little better stuff in it. | | j12601 (214), Poughkeepsie, New York | | January 1, 2011 If you’re in from out of town, more specifically a town without a Wegman’s, you should go here just to go to a Wegman’s. A lot like Whole Foods in some ways, but I’d honestly take either in my town over any of grocery stores we currently have. Clean, well lit, organized, and with an emphasis on fresh stuff. Anyway, for a grocery store the beer selection is great. They even have a little chunk with about 100 different bottles that you can mix a six pack with. Single bottles are available if they’re large format or imports. A good amount of beer available here, nothing that boggled my mind, and nothing really that can’t be found at the actual beer store, but for the casual beer drinker who likes craft beer, this is a great grocery store. | | alobar (43), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | August 8, 2010 Great grocery store. Better beer selection than any Wegman’s in PA. Solid German selection as well as New York State microbrews. | | Glouglouburp (259), Montreal, Quebec | | September 23, 2009 This is a large grocery store with a surprisingly large beer selection. Three large rows dedicated to beer. Only one row was American beer, at least when I was there. The German and English selection is impressive. Very good on the Belgian front too. A lot of imports that I didn’t know about, and I thought I knew a thing or two about the beer scene. The American selection is not as extensive as Finger Lakes Beverage Center (only a few blocks away) with focus on the regular NY state available brewery like Southern Tier, Rogue, Middle Ages, etc. However I managed to score some interesting items that were not at Beverage Center such as some of the limited Harpoon 100 Barrel Series. Prices were good. For me it was worth hitting both places and I recommend you do the same with Beverage Center being the first choice. | | beerbill (80), Laurel, New York | | September 6, 2009 This is a supermarket with a very nice beer selection located in the back corner of the store. The supermarket itself is well lit and has an amazing variety of foods with a wonderful selection of prepared foods, breads and pastries, which I imagine is geared towards the college crowd. This place was hopping at 10 pm on a Sunday night with lots of college folk. They also seem to be making an effort to attract craft beer drinkers as there was a sign in the parking lot advertising their expanded beer section with "over 600 beers". I don’t think there was quite that many, but still a much better than average selection with very good representation from local brewers like Ithaca, Wagner Valley and Custom Brewcrafters as well as other NYS and New England brewers like Southern Tier, Blue Point, Smuttynose and Harpoon. Good selection of imports as well. There is a large, spacious walk-in refrigerator adjacent to the shelves of beer. I don’t know that I would make a special trip here, but if you are in the area and need to pick up a few things anyway, its definitely worth checking out. |
