| | rickhall28 (12), denville, New Jersey | | November 13, 2011 Great find in beer starved north Jersey (other than old reliable Andy’s Corner Bar & the newer Copper Mine). Went there on a Sunday afternoon...great opportunity to get to know the place without a crowd. Karen the bartender was a great help & very accommodating with samples, advice, & great conversation. The tap selection is large (24 taps) with a nice variety of ales, lagers, Belgium’s. There’s an even larger bottle list displayed in a very informative binder which any beer geek can lose himself in for quite awhile. Being a hophead I focused on a nice selection of pale ales, IPA’s & double IPA’s (including beers from Jersey’s newest brewer Carton Brewing) but there’s plenty of variety for all tastes. The decor is very nice (see pix on website), & the food is as good as any beer bar (better than most but certainly not gourmet standards). If you are lucky like me to meet a couple of the regulars (self described beer snob Luke & local resident Orlando) you are in for an even greater experience. I was also fortunate to meet their beer manager Brandt (sp) which led to even more beer talk. All in all I highly recommend the Iron Monkey on its own merits but especially as a great substitute to heading into The City. | | Meilby (25), Kristiansand, Norway | | July 11, 2011 Cozy place with a small bar at the bottom floor, resturant on 2th and a small roof deck on the top floor. Good food and a good selection of beers on tap. Desent bottle selection, but they only have about half of what there bottle menu says. | | ben4321 (117), Hoboken, New Jersey | | May 8, 2011 Somehow I hadn’t visited this place until last week, but I was pretty impressed. I didn’t try the food and I didn’t get to see the roof top area (was closed when I went), but I heard good things about both. The selection was fairly solid, especially for North Jersey, where I haven’t found anything else with a selection this good, aside from maybe Copper Mine. I’ll definitely be back! | | ssb2much (10), New Jersey | | January 27, 2011 What a great beer selection. the only thing better would be a brewery. There’s 3 levels to the bar 3rd is the roof so save it for the summer. Live gigs sometimes too. | | BREWMUSKCLES (74), New Jersey | | August 8, 2010 [ Updated May 1, 2011 ] this is a pleasant enough place with a creative and authentic menu and a pretty decent brew collection. the service is good and the staff are helpful. i will return there with updates. Good food at reasonable prices and good beers at affordable prices with decent pours and nice girls to look at. | mesperon (7), Hillsdale, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | February 15, 2010 Great local bar with awesome, very unique ambience. Bottom floor is a small, intimate bar with a few TV’s, upstairs is a nice restaurnat with a very inventive menu, and the top floor is a great patio with views of NYC. Live music every weekend, and live music on the roof deck when music permits. The beer selection was always pretty good, but has recentlty exploded with lots of relatively obscure beers of lots of different styles. Also lots of good stuff on tap. The service is good, but not always knowledgable about beer. |
