| heemer77 (171), Savannah, Missouri | | September 6, 2009 Alright, I finally got to visit. Easily my best beer bar experience in KC. They have a nice up to date beer menu with the new taps up on a chalk board. The prices were decent for the brews. They are making a good effort to bring in craft brew. I only shared an appetizer and enjoyed it. The setting was laid back and quiet on a holiday Sunday night, and the waitresses I dealt with knew about the beer. I will certainly return when I can. I hate the parking situation in the area as it is difficult to find the right lot and it is expensive. | | aaronphazel (10), Missouri | | August 19, 2009 Best beer bar in KC by far. Too bad its in the worst part of town. | | tjthresh (76), Greenfield, Indiana | | June 12, 2009 Probably the best place for beer in KC. The help are attentive and dress really nice. Big selection with some nice specials. Prices are oaky. | | CanIHave4Beers (54), Des Moines, Iowa | | May 20, 2009 My wife arranged a vacation to KC about 6 months ago, and it just so happened that we were in town for the 1st anniversary party for this joint, which was pretty awesome. This was far and away better than the Flying Saucer I went to in Memphis. Tons of tap beers and tons of bottles, on this particular night they had Schlafly Bourbon Barrel Imperial stout and Expedition stout on tap. I got to try some Bear Republic beers I’d never had. The french fries were awesome. The service was very good, even though it was packed a bartender or manager or some such of an employee took a good 15 or 20 minutes to talk beer with me, which was pretty awesome. Looks like they do a "Glass Night" where if you order a beer from a particular brewery you get to keep the glass, which is cool. Nice enough place, I’ll return! | | Indra (51), Prairie Village, Kansas | | May 14, 2009 Have visited 3-4 times since it opened a year ago now. Without a doubt the best selection of brews in KC of any bar/restaurant, both in quantity, variety and even rarity, since they serve kegs of rotating beers that you frequently won’t find anywhere else in town. Service has been adequate on each visit. Food selection is fairly small, quality is totally average. One rather large downside is that there is no assigned seating and no true waiting area. So if the bar is really full and you don’t walk in to an available table, you get to just stand around in front of the door and wait for someone to leave. To me that doesn’t make sense. But, the beer menu has never failed to impress and that’s what this place is all about. | | bblack99 (17), Kansas City, Missouri | | April 27, 2009 [ Updated April 29, 2009 ] A little pricy, a little slow, and a lot crowded, but what place in the Power & Light District isn’t? If you want a beer in Kansas City that you wouldn’t expect to find in a bar, Flying Saucer should be your first stop.
The food is surprisingly good, especially the appetizers. As ridiculous as it sounds, try the soft pretzel...great complement to beer! | tdcritch (1), Missouri does not count - explanation | | March 12, 2009 I love this bar. The only complain is it takes forever to order a beer because you don’t know which one to try, there is a huge selection. The bartender said he had 242 beers on tap and their bottle selection. If your in the KC area and love beer, this is the place to be. | Pawola22 (7), Kansas City, Missouri does not count - explanation | | March 8, 2009 [ Updated October 19, 2009 ] I live in downtown KC and this is definitely my favorite bar in the area. It has the best draught/bottle selection of any bar between Denver and St. Louis. They regularly update their seasonal offerings...typically weekly. The bartenders are heavily into beer and are great to talk to. The waitresses generally can decipher the differences in style, but they lack the "beer-nerd" knowledge that the bartenders have. They can be a little slow, but usually its because I visit on the weekends and the place is pretty busy. During the week though, they’re on top of things. There are a few that will absolutely "wow" you too. I ran into a waitress once that literally had a trayful of beers on a Friday night and smelled each of them before naming them off one-by-one and then distributing the beer amongst the group. She was a dream come true. The food is above average for pub grub. The jalepeno salad dressing is great. Overall, I love this bar. It has a great selection of rotating beer, better than average food, and a very friendly environment. I recommend this to all beer lovers. | oukami (5), Lenexa, Kansas does not count - explanation | | February 11, 2009 Best tap/bottle selection for micro/craft/import beers in the KC metro area. Tap selection rotates fairly regularly, usually something new at least every couple of weeks.
Bartenders tend to be beer geeks, the rest of the wait staff, not so much.
The Usinger brats are excellent, the rest of the food is standard bar far. | | madcow75 (12), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin | | June 10, 2008 Tuesday night, decent crowd. Nice location downtown, Power and light district I believe they call it. Nice scenery, fairly young crowd. Huge selection of taps, updated list of new additions on the blackboard. The soft pretzel appetizer was excellent. I had Sierra Nevada Southern Hemisphere and Two Hearted on tap, both seemed really fresh. Above average place. Server was not real attentive or informative. |
