| csaso (71), Missouri | | May 17, 2012 Basically a big liquor store with a pretty good selection of beers - both American micro and import. Some of your usual suspects for good beer, but also a few I have not seen before. Worth checking out if you are in the area. Seemed to be fairly reasonably priced. | | KapitiCritique (32), Kansas City, Missouri | | January 6, 2010 [ Updated April 20, 2012 ] WAS: Tacky, a bit disorganised. For the area it is the biggest selection. NOW: Completely rebuilt. Spacious, well lit, still an excellent selection and very well located. Not more than 25 minutes from most of the 20 KC Metro counties. Staff, while amenable, still need extensive training. But this is an issue in most craft beer stores. Bud and Miller are drunk in large quantities by the undiscerning. Staff need more knowledge for the craft beer market. You want repeat business for people who will pay more for the product. It is just good business. | | foppa78 (12), Lees Summit, Missouri | | December 10, 2009 This is a very small liquor store with lots of stuff crammed in. They have a descent selection considering their space limitations. You can usually find a rare gem here that you cant find elsewhere. | | aaronphazel (10), Missouri | | August 19, 2009 Pretty good place. Very hit and miss. If your in the midtown area this is your best bet. | | CanIHave4Beers (69), Des Moines, Iowa | | May 21, 2009 It’s a pretty all right place, don’t let the way it looks on the outside keep you from going in. You’ll be quick to learn that the siding falling off the bulding is just a part of that Gomers charm. Plenty of good beer way in the back, pretty disorganized but the guy working there both times I’ve been in has been very nice and as helpful as he can be. Prices are fair and sometimes they’ve got good sales (or at least this is what I’ve observed the two times I’ve been in) | | heemer77 (205), Urbandale, Iowa | | May 15, 2009 Pretty nice selection with fair prices. I was able to find a few new goodies here. I was happy to see that the beer seems to be at least a little tucked away from major light sources. Not great looking, but that isn’t why you visit a beer store. Certainly worth a stop if in the downtown area, but did not seem to have as much as the south side KC stores. | | theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | February 11, 2008 [ Updated May 15, 2009 ] Stopped by, midday Thursday. Selection is less than Lukas KC or Royal 103rd (as of Feb 2008) though it still is fairly representative of what is locally available. Well above average selection for a beer store. Maybe more convenient for folks traveling to town compared to the places down south. One drawback is no mix a six offered. Service was good the day I was in, though Mark (beer manager) was not in. They helped me locate a beer that wasn’t on the floor yet. As mentioned by others, this is not a clean store - inside or out. | | HomeBrewHawk (20), De Soto, Kansas | | February 4, 2008 [ Updated May 11, 2012 ] Updated 5/11
They tore the old store down and built a new one. It has a lot more cooler space for craft beer. It seems like they have upgraded their selection as well. You will get a pretty good representation of what is available in the area. Prices are inline with other stores.
I haven’t had any experience with the service on my most recent visits, but I believe that Mark still runs things. They don’t seem as up on the social media as some of the other stores as far as posting new arrivals.
This is one of those stores that keeps some things behind the counter, so you might have to ask if there is something that you don’t see. | drawde (4), San Francisco, California does not count - explanation | | August 16, 2007 Caveat--I’m a non-local hophead, so I’m only looking for IPAs and double IPAs. On August 15, 2007, I bought Schlafly’s Export IPA (which was lame) and Great Divide Hercules Double IPA (which was bomber). There was another double IPA but I didn’t recognize it and it doesn’t hit the radar on ratebeer. They had labels (indicating they sometimes carry) some of the Bells IPAs and doubles, which got me excited, but they were out. Friendly, somewhat knowledgable staff. Overall maybe the best place in KC? dunno, only place I’ve been so far and certainly better than a corner store. | | sethdude (17), St. Louis, Missouri | | September 11, 2005 All in all a fairly good beer store. Building is graffiti-tagged, floor is filthy, and lighting is horrid, but that’s really the only bad things I can say about this place. Selection was fair, with local(ish) beers from Boulevard, Schlafly, Pony Express, and much to my suprise, O’Fallon. I was able to find a few new things. I also was able to find a jar of Boulevard Pale Ale Mustard, which is the best mustard EVER. |
