| high_on_hops (11), Missouri | | February 17, 2012 I’m glad this place opened up in the south side of KC, as any other place like it is pretty much in Westport or downtown Kansas City. They have a nice-sized menu of standard pub food plus a few great specials. They have a decent selection on tap and in bottles, with some great rotating selections. The owner is pretty friendly too. | | KapitiCritique (32), Kansas City, Missouri | | November 20, 2011 Nice country pub in the heart of the heart of BBQ capitol of the Planet. Cute waitress with good attitude; Orders taken quickly, beer out fast; Big selection, high end stuff, sandwiches and burgers were very good; very reasonably priced. | | jandd1983 (87), Florissant, Missouri | | October 2, 2011 First trip to Martin City, great venue. Met the owner, Matt, was very knowledgeable and paasionate about his establishment. In the process of purchasing the property next door to start their brewing facility. He was very excited to explain the details to us. I told him we would return when the Martin City beers are flowing. Well worth the trip. | beerdad (5), Kansas does not count - explanation | | August 19, 2011 been there for beer a number of times. they have a great selection and very reasonable on pricing. bartender is great and i will go back. | | bblack99 (30), Kansas City, Missouri | | June 23, 2011 Visited opening night, 6/3. Not at all my part of town, but I have friends in the area and we made it a group outing. Small place, but done up in a speakeasy motif and pretty cozy. Outdoor patio featured live music and will be great when those perfect autumn days hit KC.
Waitresses were slow and didn’t know the beer list well, which wasn’t too surprising for opening night. The owners (who were busting their tails) certainly DID know the beers and stopped by to check on us several times.
Started the night with risotto balls, great appetizer, then had a really tasty pork and spinach sandwich. Tap list is impressive for anywhere in KC, but doubly so for anywhere south of Westport. Prices were very reasonable, food was good, and so were the beers.
Will be great once they’re able to offer their own brews, but a very good southland beer (and food) destination as is. | | theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | June 23, 2011 [ Updated June 29, 2011 ] Visited midweek late afternoon in June 2011. As mentioned, this place is quite small - 5-6 seats at the bar directly in front as you enter, bar tables around the front - steps up to dining tables in back. Out the side, there is a large patio that looks like a great place to spend time on a nice day. The selection here is quite impressive - really with no caveats (location, etc). They had about dozen taps that were all craft and well chosen. Additionally, a nice bottle list to fill out styles and brewers. Mark was my bartender, and he was great - really knowledgeable about the beers and really committed to the business. I ordered the black bean nachos, and they were unique and tasty. What this is today is a friendly place with a great beer list. What I hope for the future is that this is a friendly place with a great beer list + a couple of their own brews. This is the wish of the owners as well; here’s hoping it happens sooner rather than later! | hbk7770 (2), Missouri does not count - explanation | | June 18, 2011 If you are familiar with Martin City, then it’s hard not to say that this restaurant and bar adds a special buzz to the city that wasn’t there before. The restaurant itself is very small, but a neat place, regardless. The bar is small too, but is nice. The beer selection is pretty solid with about 50 different bottled beers and about 11 on tap. The variety on their beers is very nice (more specifically the styles of beers and regions they are from). This is especially nice for the area since there really aren’t any bars around the area with the selection that martin city brewing has. The menu was once again, a little too small for my taste, but you couldn’t argue with the taste of the burgers and pork sandwich. Overall, it was a great environment with friendly bartenders and servers and I can’t wait to go back again. |
