The second stop of my KC trip. I was interested to discover that the trendy hipster like bar that was attached to McCoy’s was really part of McCoys (called something like the Furnace or something). Anyhow, we went there first. Nice selection of odd ball whiskeys (some items from New Holland for example) and high end liquors. A very fine tap selection that incuded McCoy taps and guest taps, and the real treat was the rare bottle fridge. Pricy but nice selection (Scaba, KBS, etc). The pita and mixed hummas app we got was good. The actual brewery was also nice and we enjoyed a beer at the bar inside. There was also a nice looking deck and bar but it was raining. Overall, very nice beer selection, reasonable wait staff, good atmosphere and good food. A must stop if you are in the area.

Pretty cool atmosphere with some ho-hum brews. The service can also be a little lackluster, but they usually seem to have around 8-10 of their own beers, so it’s worth a stop on occasion.

The beer here is pretty average. I’ve never really been very impressed with the beer here. The food is pretty good and they have a great patio for drinking during the summer. It is located next door to Foundry’s and across the street from Beer Kitchen, so if you don’t find what you want here, you can find it close.

Enjoyed the food and beer at McCoy’s this past summer. Was sent to work in Kansas City and came across McCoy’s. Found the staff cheerful and friendly. I found the food good, priced fairly. Espicially enjoyed the Wednesday night special, canjun pasta. Looking to go back in the future.

(Visited 06/2011): McCoy’s is located in the busy Westport area south of Kansas City by Pioneer Park. The brewpub is at the intersection of Pennsylvania and Westport. Parking is dicey in the entire area, and I ended up finding a street spot several blocks away. The interior has a dark paint and wood motif and hanging lights. Old pictures and school portraits adorn the walls. The bar is in the center displaying TVs on all sides, with restaurant seating all around, and the brewing equipment is in the rear. McCoy’s’ beer selection consists of 9 house beers, ranging from lighter options like Wheat, Light, and Ginger Shandy to more robust fare like Oatmeal Stout and Toddy Porter. The beers are pretty average on the whole. They have a 6-beer sampler available. Service on a weekday evening at the bar was good. The bartender was well-versed in the beers available and was courteous throughout my meal. I am a sucker for macaroni and cheese, so the Mac Daddy dinner jumped out at me and I was not disappointed. Four-cheese with peas and smoked bacon, ’nuff said. Overall this is a beer spot that is somehow better than the sum of its parts. I would not say the beers alone are worth a special trip but overall I enjoyed my visit.

A nice place in a cool neighborhood with a great outdoor deck. Beers were above average for brewpub beers, but nothing overly exciting. However, the ginger shandy was awesome! Not usually a style I would go for, but it was easy drinking and I crushed a couple pints. Service was good, ambience was great, and good beer. Worth a stop.

AMBIENCE: Lunch time, quiet and good light for reading or computering, physically solid looking, lots of small intimate areas and open areas - good atmosphere. Slap up against many other great locations so well positioned for a night of debauchery. Seems to be a place for all occasions and seasons. SERVICE: Lunch time - Knowledgeable, prompt, friendly and proactive. SELECTION: good but not outstanding. It is a brew pub brewing for the hot summer months right now so you are not going to get the deep complexity you might hope to find. They had a handful of other choices but the selection is minimal FOOD: Four lunch choices, all good, nice proportions and not over-priced VALUE: Good OVERALL: Brew Pub dilemma, make amazing and avant garde, OML brews that a small crowd will rave about or go for the larger market? The in-house concoctions were all drinkable but none were memorable. Lunch menu was fine. Nice place and great location.
