21 reviews for 101 Bottles of Beer on the Wall
| shawnm213 (42), South Bend, Indiana | | October 19, 2009 Some kind of dance music playing. Some college coeds working who never venture from behind the counter. Better selection than expected. Had alesmith, bruery, some local stuff, etc. More bottles and a larger selection of singles than riverside. I purchased some stuff that 101 bottles had but riverside didn’t and vice versa. I would swing by both locations if you are in the area and have the time. If you can only go to one, I would go to riverside since they had some good beers on tap. | joekinty (8), rockledge, Florida does not count - explanation | | April 12, 2009 Has a GREAT SELECTION BUT A BUNCH OF JERKS RUN THE PALCE THEY ARE NOT HELPFULL AT ALL AND ARE ANNOTED WHEN ASKED IF THEY HAVE A CERTAIN BEER AVAILABLE | jdmaher58 (1), Dover, Ohio does not count - explanation | | March 22, 2009 I have to disagree with mrbunn. I was the only person in the store every time that I have been in there, but the service has always been good and the last time I was in the aprox. 3 weeks ago the guy was more than helpful. I do like riverside a little more, because if the owner is there and you ask for something unusual, he will offer free samples of what they have on tap that is similar to your request. But that being said, 101 has a great selection, the best within 50+ miles good prices, and in my experience a very helpful staff. | | MrBunn (53), Western, Pennsylvania | | March 16, 2009 Dumpy looking college town beer store from the exterior. Nice looking fancy wine store inside. Selection is better than Riverside with more singles available and slightly better prices on most things. Selection of local brews is very good, a pretty decent smattering of imports and other micros. Service is lousy. I’m not sure that I was acknowledged until I went to pay. | | Dogbrick (218), Columbus, Ohio | | October 10, 2008 (Visited 03/2008): This store is located near the Kent State campus not too far from I-76. It is in a strip mall with a decent-sized private lot.
The store is very open-looking with a most of the product around the edge of the store. There are beer coolers containing sixers and singles along the left and rear. The right part of the store has wine, and there is also a walk-in cooler for what I assume is macro-type stuff.
The beer selection is pretty good, and there is a pretty good array of singles. Beers from Rogue, Stone, GLBC, Bell’s and the like are next to some more rare brewers like Mad River. Imports from the UK, Germany, Belgium etc are mixed in as well.
The service is about what you would expect at a campus-area beer stop. The guy wasn’t rude but wasn’t particularly helpful either. He kind of just stared at me as I walked by the cashier stand.
Overall I would lean toward Riverside for beer purchases because there you can have some gourmet cheese and a pint of something good while you deliberate your purchase. Still, this place is worth a look if you are in the neighborhood. | | MikeF (95), Cleveland, Ohio | | May 15, 2008 A very clean, organized beer and wine store. They have a wide selection of great beers to chose from. Not the rarest of finds, but numerous great beers available. Worth the stop if you are nearby. | | Brigadier (80), Chagrin Falls, Ohio | | January 7, 2008 Now that I have a reason to be down in Kent on a regular basis this may become a go-to location. Being out of Cuyahoga County you can get the same beers cheaper by virtue of lower taxes.
The selection is solid and covers a nice range of imports and domestic beers. Many are available in singles as well in case you want to mix and match. All cases are against the wall which makes getting around very easy even when multiple people are browsing. If you happen to be in the area stop here first then pick up everything else at Riverside before returning to Cleveland. | | dankman38 (14), Somewhere in, Ohio | | November 30, 2007 Nice store with lots of space and a good amount of it dedicated to craft beer at fair prices. I found some stuff not normally seen in the area and was impressed with the selection of singles. Good place to visit if you’re in the area. | dharhay (6), Uniontown, Ohio does not count - explanation | | July 3, 2007 Great place to get your beer for the weekend. Huge selection and that includes singles selection, too. | | cking (26), North Canton, Ohio | | June 7, 2007 One of Kent’s two great beer stores. 101 Bottles is a wide open well lit store with an outstanding selection. They seemed to have everything that the other store carried (Riverside) and it was much easier to navigate around with ample elbow room. Tons of great beers to choose from you can get cases, twelvers, sixers, four packs, bombers, and singles. Fraternity Boys generally work here and they are very friendly but not extremely knowledgeable. I was able to get some really good bombers that were discounted to half their normal retail. Great value, awesome selection, and a well laid out store. |
