| shawnm213 (42), South Bend, Indiana | | October 19, 2009 I like beer stores where i can drink great beer while i shop for beer. Had a goose island imperial brown goose while I browsed the beer. Small selection bottle count wise than 101 bottles, but they had a couple gems here. Ended up purchasing 4 bombers here, two of which were on my want list. (alesmith yulesmith summer and otter creek imperial IPA). Was pleasantly surprised by the variety of beers on tap. They had gonzo porter, imperial brown goose, south tier hop harvest, plus about 10 other craft beers! Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area. | | MrBunn (53), Western, Pennsylvania | | March 16, 2009 This is a very nice-looking beer/wine store with excellent service, nice taps for samples or pints and a slightly better than ho-hum selection. The singles selection is limited and everything is in coolers, but this is still a worthy stop if you’re in the area. Prices on most things were a little more than at 101 Beers on the Wall, but then there were a few better prices here and there. | | Dogbrick (218), Columbus, Ohio | | October 10, 2008 (Visited 03/2008): Riverside Wines & Imports is an appropriately named shop/bar on Mantua near Kent State campus just a short way from I-76. There is a small private lot in front.
The interior is segmented into a bar, aisles with beer/wine/food, and a dining area. There is also a large patio overlooking a river and train tracks. The inside has large windows facing the street and the walls are painted with a vineyard feel. The bar is to the left and is pretty small but comfortable.
Riverside has 14 beers on draught, featuring goodies such as Hoppin’ Frog B.O.R.I.S The Crusher, Gonzo, Southern Tier, Dragon’s Milk, Founders, Corsendonk and others. They also have around 400 bottled beers, many in singles from the likes of Stone, Bell’s, GLBC, and Hoppin’ Frog domestically, as well as imports from Belgium, Germany, the UK etc. A very thorough selection all around.
Service here is great. The owner was the bartender/cashier/waiter on my Saturday afternoon visit and took pains to learn everyone’s names and provide good service. He knew the beers pretty well too.
I did not try any food on this visit.
All in all this place is highly recommended for anyone in the Akron/Canton area. People who denounce a place with a great bottle selection and well thought-out draught list plus a friendly owner based on a snobby perception should be careful what they call the kettle. I’d go back in a heartbeat. | | Brigadier (80), Chagrin Falls, Ohio | | January 17, 2008 This is roughly on part with 101 Bottles. The only difference is that here you are just as likely to find something worth trying on tap as well as bottled. Last time I stopped in there were a handful of Christmas beers and Bell’s Expedition Stout.
Prices are comparable to other stores in the area. Selection can sometimes be hit or miss if you are looking for Alesmith or Stone releases though they usually have the regular stable.
If you are making a stop at 101 Bottles this is on the way back to Cleveland so you may as well visit. You are unlikely to regret it unless you have an empty wallet. | coop3dw (1), Canton, Ohio does not count - explanation | | July 5, 2007 I live in Canton and they have about the best selection that I could find in the area. I also like the fact that you can try a lot of the beers on site before you buy a 6/12 for home. The food selection is somewhat limited, just cheese, crackers and the like.
The owner was very helpful and will actually order just about anything you might want if it’s not in stock.
| dharhay (6), Uniontown, Ohio does not count - explanation | | July 3, 2007 This is truly a must see place. I have been here many times and always have a very good time. | | cking (26), North Canton, Ohio | | June 7, 2007 Stopped in before visiting an old friend in Kent. First of all this is a very unique place, you walk in and to the immediate left is a small bar. They always have a rotating selection of about 5 outstanding craft brews. You can belly up to the bar and get some amazing pints for under $5. There are beer coolers behind and beside the bar housing a wonderful selection of imports, micros, and craft beers. Tons of bombers and singles as well as sixers. I stocked up on some hard to find singles and bombers. The rest of the front is wine and some additional tables, and I believe there is a larger lounge area in the back. It’s a bit cramped and I kept getting in the way of the waitress who was making her way from the bar to the back room. Nobody offered to help or ask what I was looking for which didn’t bother me since I can figure out what I want to try on my own. The prices seemed fair. Very pleased with the selection I’ll be back in the future. | bodhijah (1), Kent, Ohio does not count - explanation | | April 24, 2007 despite its many drawbacks this is the widest selection of micros and imports in Kent... we have at least 250 single beers(bombers and belgian 750mls included) at any time(usually about 300 depending on the last time i worked and how busy we are) ... at any given time we SHOULD have 8-10 Bells varieties, the entire Great Lakes line (seasonals included), all available Three Floyds 12oz bottles and bombers, the entire DogfishHead line(seasonals included), the entire Victory line, as well as numerous brews from Avery, New Holland, Founders, Stone and a multitude of rotating imports and micros...i do the vast majority of the beer ’single-ing’ here and choose only good beer; however, occasionally moronic patrons ask other employees to single out less than stellar beers that i do my best to remove...
we also have 6 taps(currently: GL Nosferatu(soon to be reclaimed by my precious Alpha King!), GONZO, Lindeman’s Framboise, Southern Tier Jah-Va, Dogfish Head 90 min IPA, and, against my protest dues to its WIDE availability and prevalence within a 2 mile radius, Magic Hat #9, the "almost" pale ale that reeks of apricots that Magic Hat does not want to advertise as a "fruit beer"(lameness) ...we also have about 350+ beers by the twelve and six | | b33r (10), Cleveland, Ohio | | February 10, 2007 [ Updated August 29, 2008 ] They’re currently remodeling their beer aisles apparently. They’ve mixed up their coolers with singles and 6-packs and gotten rid of a lot of their singles. It’s gone downhill the past couple months as far as selection goes, really pretty bad. They said they’re putting in new coolers, but it’s been a long time and their selection is getting worse. Hope they get it done soon because 101 is getting a lot of my business.
Parking is a problem. I’ve only ever been there to pick up singles, and that aisle is a very cramped, high traffic area, sometimes with boxes of wine on the floor and not very well lit. In the ten times I may have been there, the staff hasn’t approached me once to say hello or ask if I need help, and I typically have to wait for a cashier to come check me out. Good single selection keeps me coming back.
| | ¾ (599), Colorado | | December 29, 2006 Solid store, but selection is more limited than 101 Bottles. They also have less singles here, but prices are comparable to 101 Bottles, and overall fair. They have a bar with draught beer and a bunch of cheese. Great "fine food and drink" store, but selection is beat by a slim margin at 101 Bottles. Worth visiting, though. |
