Thank god for this store, was home visiting my in laws for a couple of weeks and although there is nothing that i love more than going to the pub with my father in law, and brothers in law, the selection in nearly every pub in the area has the same five beers, bud, carlsberg, heineken, guinness, and smithwicks. As a footnote to how bad things are for micros in ireland at the moment, the more popular grocery store, superquinns, actually has a beer with no label or brewing information on it, just a red can with white letters that says, "beer", reminds me of Randy Mosher’s "Tasting Beer" of the same thing happening in the US in the ’70’s, maybe this is the bottom before things start to turn around in irish micro brewing. Went online just before i left and found this place on ratebeer and decided to give it a try, at the very least it would be a break from the beer malaise that is ireland. The owner came right over and asked if i needed any help and i explained the situation i was in, that im getting tired of the un-fab five beers available to me, and that as a beer afficianado, I need something to interest my palate. We walked around the store and talked about beer for maybe 15 minutes before i even bought anything, meanwhile my wife and son are waiting in the still-running car outside thinking i would only be a minute! oops. So the area for beer is not huge, maybe 15x20 feet, but what it lacks in quantity, it more than makes up for in quality, especially if youre from the northeast of the US. Loads of beers that are unavailable in the states or at least in my area. Yes, mainly irish, english, german, some belgian not a ton though, and some eastern european staples. Spent a little more than what my wife was happy with and decided a few days later when the stock i had purchased was finished, I went back for some more. Ive been to most other areas in Ireland, Cork, Galway, Dublin, etc. and although this might not be #1 on the list, it is easily the best in the area, no question. If I lived in Kilkenny, I would be here all the time.

Visited on a Friday afternoon in May, this store sells tons of beers from the UK and Ireland, Belgium and Italy. Selection included things like Vedett, Shepherd’s Neame, Coopers, Trieste. Next best shop we’ve seen on our trip (the first being the Abbot in Cork). Friendly staff waited patiently while we filled our cart and helped us bag it up. A good little store, plenty of wines and other spirits to also tickle your fancy, if you’re interested.

Nice little shop. Staff mostly ignored us until we came to pay but were available if we had questions and helped us wrap up our bottles a bit. Prices seemed reasonable for Ireland. Range of UK, Irish and imports. We picked up a lot of English stuff as we had already tried a lot of the Irish beers they had available. Definitely worth stopping in. Abbot Ale House in Cork had a slightly broader selection in some respects, but we did most of our bottle shopping here due to luggage/travel factors.

I have been in Ireland for two months and have traveled all over and this is the best store I have found so far. They have some Belgians, 3 Hoegaarden and 3 Huyghe and more
