40 reviews for The Beer Engine
Intimidator (2), Ohio does not count - explanation | | November 17, 2009 Went to the BBE about two weeks ago. Smallr than what I was picturing. Looks like an old fast food resturant turned into a bar. One inside there is comfortable lighting and a decent sized bar. As far as the Beers they have a little bit of everything for everyone. I wiill defintely be back. | | Packard (20), Kirkland, Washington | | November 15, 2009 Now this is what I’m talkin’ about. Don’t have much to contribute that hasn’t been said by other reviewers. I sat at the bar on a Sunday night and here’s the experience: (1) Ambience: Horseshoe-shaped bar, where I sat. Comfortable, and didn’t have trouble hearing conversations, but maybe that was a Sunday vs. Fri/Sat night benefit. (2) Service: The bartender was in a different league from most mortals. Had visited many of the Euro brewers, knew that Aecht Schlenkerla brewery was under a cathedral, and was bemoaning the fact that their bottle display case was lit. Now, you can’t tell me that beertenders get any better than that! (3) Selection: great taps (incl. 2 casks) and phenonmenal bottles - just the magnitude of the bottle selection exceeds anywhere I’ve been in the U.S. I had their local India Brown, the Aecht Fastenbier, and the Brew Dog Hardcore IPA (4) The Ohio/ Illinois/ Illinois area is hard to beat for German food, so tonight’s treat was Beer Engine’s sausage plate with brat, knockwurst, a very rich apple sauce, potato pancakes, and sauerkraut. Bartender suggested pairing it with the tap Schlenkerla Fastenbier, the lighter of the Marzen and Urbock smoked beers, and just perfect.. Conclusion: Not having been to all of the top-rated beer places yet, I don’t know what perfection looks like, but this has gotta be close. Mandatory visit if you are in northern Ohio. | barak316 (4), does not count - explanation | | October 23, 2009 The Beer Engine is the Beer Engine. What can I say that has not already been said. They have a "bible’ of beer. They have phenomenal burgers and the tap list is second to none. The events the have are spectacular. The only thing that drives me crazy about this place is the acoustic surroundings (i know i am ridiculous for mentioning this0, but come on its hard to hear those that sit at the same table as you. Otherwise this has got to be the best bar in NEOHIO!!! | | Sparky27 (16), Phoenix, Arizona | | September 16, 2009 Nice bottle selection as well as several beers on tap. House beers are pretty good. Food was good too. Inside seating is a little cramped and parking sucks, but overall a nice place to grab a brew if you’re ever in the area. | | Icommonsewer (10), TUCSON, Arizona | | September 4, 2009 Great, great place with beer stuff all over the walls and good food and though I read the reviews about the slow service, I was there just after lunch and our service was great! Love the selection on their beer menu. So many beers, so little time! | | ZiggyDaMoe (12), , Ohio | | July 8, 2009 Absolutely my favorite place I have ever had a beer on tap, cask, or rare bottle. Don’t miss their fantastic Beer Paired Dinners. Not only is their own beer top notch, their guest selections are out of this world and continually rotate., The attention to detail on the food menu iis spot on. You have to stop here!!! | | Cliff (10), Avon Lake, Ohio | | July 6, 2009 Great place, huge burgers and an even bigger selection of brews. Lots of fairly hard to find items on tap plus 2 real ales. Extensive bottle list that are all available to go at a discounted price. Usually pretty busy, but one of the few must stops in the Cleveland beer scene. | thelizard (2), Canton, Ohio does not count - explanation | | June 30, 2009 This place is my Ohio heaven. Extensive bottle selection updated monthly, and drafts updated daily. Have gone multiple times, and every time there is a surprise. At a sour ale tasting, they had one of approximately four kegs of Jolly Pumpkin Perseguidor made, while this month they have bottles of Mikkeller Geek Brunch Weasel. What really seals the deal is the food. Best fries I’ve ever had (shoestring with rosemary) for $3 a basket, and a delicious Kobe Beef Hot Dog for $6. I’d rate the value higher, but some of the bottles can be pricey, and it adds up quickly. All in all, a must visit. | | Pipper (27), Ohio | | May 31, 2009 Great place in Lakewood. Very extensive bottle list with varying prices. Nice setup inside (long U shaped bar with 3 wall-mounted flat screens) and outside (patio with outdoor seating). Good amount of beer gear hanging on the walls and a nice draft list. Good crowd on a Saturday night but not so bad you couldn’t find a seat. Service was great and the food was awesome, not as spicy as Fathead’s but still top-notch burgers and fries. Free parking is a plus since most of the area is metered. They do to-go’s as well from there bottle list. 27 beers on tap the night I visited so I was not disappointed, which featured about 3 beer Buckeye Brewing Beers. Couldn’t believe my eyes and got very happy when I saw Baladin and Birrifcio Italiano listed on the bottle list as I had just come back from Italy and was familiar with these beers, only downside was the price but it was no different than the price you’d find in Italy. A great place wish it were closer to me than Lakewood. | jbivens544 (3), Ohio does not count - explanation | | April 16, 2009 Constantly changing available draft beers from around the world.
Finest selection.
Small batch brews.
Feature Buckeye Brewing Beer (small batch, very good) but they don’t push it.
I live 30 miles away and still find myself sitting at the bar.
Good food pairings available.
Just opened the basement for additional activities.
2 beer engines.
Free parking right next to it. |
