| LilBeerDoctor (185), East Setauket, New York | | December 4, 2011 Located in downtown Lancaster, across from Franklin and Marshall college. Surprisingly the crowd when I was there on a Sunday night was a little older (definitely not a college crowd atmosphere). They had a huge tap list, maybe 15 beers, ranging from an imperial stout to a pumpkin stout to a number of Belgian offerings, etc. The pumpkin stout I got was the best I’ve ever had. Wow. It was so good I had to get 2 pints, instead of trying something else. The food here is great (I got the chicken pot pie). Overall, it is on the pricier side, but you can’t get much better quality than this. I’ve only been to one other Iron Hill location (Wilmington), and this is pretty comparable although they had more beers on tap here, so I guess I would say it’s better. A great must stop! | | MrChopin (89), Baltimore, Maryland | | November 7, 2011 [ Updated November 11, 2011 ] Easily the best IH location, fastest rotating taps, seasonal-heavy each time, great variety always, fantastic food specials and events. The food is terrific here, definitely take advantage of mug club membership and enjoy it frequently. Atmosphere reminds of Southampton, swanky dark wood with one large TV at the bar, often playing golf. Service is decent-good though I’ve seen some weird customer-server tiffs before (granted the customer was a dbag). | BrianJ1948 (3), does not count - explanation | | October 2, 2011 Wow. Space is great - rooms beautiful -. Menu and food outstanding.
And the Beeer - great selection, very knowledgable and helpful server.
An excellent experience.
Want the to open place in NY area! | | strongpieman (68), Mount Airy, Maryland | | September 3, 2011 Brewpub restaurant. Nice place, good bar area with tv’s and nice high top tables. Not a quiet place for a beer, but for the style and what it is, I enjoyed it. Food was excellent, but expensive. Beers were quite good and service was good. Given the type of place, I wasn’t surprised that the wait staff didn’t know much about the beers... but if you accept that and the pricing, it’s a good place. | | orangesol (28), Pennsylvania | | August 31, 2011 Finally made it down here again, this time long enough for a proper look around. This is one large space. Very nice looking, inside and out, with three separate seating areas and the bar area. It feels sophisticated yet laid back and casual. The quality is good. The beers are served in their proper glasses and the food has always been top notch. The location is awesome and the overall construction of the restaurant is great. One of the nicest looking brew pubs in the area. The first time I went here was during the recent sour event and the place was packed. Our server was good but he told us we could only order one sampler tray per table due to a shortage of glasses. Right, that is why the table right across from us had three people get them at the same time we did. This most recent trip I ordered sweet potato fries as my side and when my food arrived, normal fries. I understand forgetting to put in the order right but he only had two tables at the time. How do you forget that? Not a huge deal but another misfire in the service department.
The selection has always been good. Lots of different things to try. They like to take chances and more often than not they pay off. From their sours and award wining stouts to their amazing hoppy beers you really can’t go wrong. Both times I have eaten here the food has been great. So far I have gotten the goat cheese pizza, meatloaf, turkey burger, and half of a pulled pork sandwich. The pizza was excellent, as was the pork. The food has always been well prepared and I can’t wait to try some of the other offerings. Overall this is another great option for the local beer lovers. The beer and food is awesome and they are always having special events. Can’t wait to stop down here again soon. | | fata2683 (125), Tucson, Arizona | | June 17, 2011 came here with my wife for lunch. Food is upscale gastropub fare that is pretty expensive IMO. Beers were very good and decently priced on tap but the take home bottles were outrageous at 20-25 dollars per 750ml. | | DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | May 30, 2011 Probably the biggest of the Iron Hills that I’ve visited. It’s literally across the street from F&M. There’s no way I would have attended classes senior year if I attended a college with a brewpub across the street. Sat in the bar area which didn’t have the best service on the day. I hate having to ask for water repeatedly and my friends waited 20 minutes before the server returned to take our order. They had a berliner weisse which was excellent. very crisp and Tart, it didn’t need syrup. The prices were a bit much $12 for two pints seems a bit excessive. But I’d definitely go back if I’m in the area, as long as I can find someone else to pay. | | Lubiere (349), Ottawa, Ontario | | April 28, 2011 Similar to the other location i visited a few years back, this is a modern and vibrant brewpub with great beers, lovely food selection, good service and good sampling opportunities (1$ a 4 on. sample)...As with all IH locations, a must go! | | ROGUE (15), Newark, Delaware | | February 25, 2011 A very good brewpub with an every changing selection of special house brews and seasonals. Decent food at a good price. 750ml to go bottles and growlers are pricey. | | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | July 15, 2010 [ Updated November 9, 2010 ] Nice stop. Open space but filled with rich wood that gave it a cozy feel. The parking is ample. My server was very helpful and knew a good bit about the beer. Prices for food are on the high side but still reasonable, and the food is pretty damn good. The beer ranges from solid to very good, and it is priced well, with the exception of the bottled reserve series, which are $17+ for a 750. Pretty astronomical, especially direct from the brewery. Other than that, though, a very nice place, and I’m happy with my first ever visit to an Iron Hill. . |
