| blackflag321 (18), Lansing, Michigan | | January 16, 2012 Been here a couple times after work with coworkers. Surprised once to find a DIPA (Hop Head Switch) and a maibock another time. Would like to see them expand their offerings beyond their house brand. Or at least increase the availability of their special offerings. I am disappointed here when I can choose only from MBC products I can buy in my neighborhood store. | bowlnman1990 (2), Lansing, Michigan does not count - explanation | | June 13, 2011 I enjoyed my experience at MBC. I loved the burger I had, but the service was average at best. I love MBC and supporting the local brewery, but was expecting much more. The pub seemed an odd combo of modern/western to me, and the Celis beers seemed to be a larger part of their focus than I would have thought. I will be going back, but it could be better. | | riseagainstme (12), Michigan | | December 3, 2010 I hate this place. I have given it two chances. The first time sucked and the second was worse. The first time I was there I just stopped in to have a pint and check the place out. They were out of almost everything that was a little creative on their list. I had to settle for one of their beers I can go get at the grocery store, and I swear the one I got at the grocery store tasted fresher. The second time was worse, cause they were still out of most the beers they claimed were on tap, and they were also out of most of their food we tried to order. Once we found food that they still had, we waited an hour to get it. I talked to the manager and got the same reasoning for both. He said that they only get shipments once a week even though they are a little more than 20 miles away from the actual brewery. Seems like a great business plan. | | Silphium (58), East Lansing, Michigan | | January 7, 2010 From the "MBC" logo on the front of the building to the post-modern industrial look of the interior, this establishment is about one thing above all others: branding. The look is a curious hybrid between a traditional, cozy brewpub and a glitzy high-end nightclub. It is obvious MBC is trying to lure law students and image-conscious urbanites to this brewpub, but not so obvious that they are interested in being a serious beer presence in Lansing. The tap list is fairly long, but is focused on light lagers and the mostly mediocre Celis beers MBC has been pushing for a few years now. Perhaps it is a strategic move to focus on beers "craft beer elitists" would never seek out, but it is a disappointment to a serious beer drinker, and I usually order water with my lunch instead of one of the overpriced ($5/pint) mediocre offerings. Food is OK; service is OK; nothing stands out. The free peanuts, though, are a nice touch. Now, we continue to wait in Lansing for a brewer to locate here who is serious about making fantastic craft beer. |
