| ADfan (16), Orange County, California | | May 24, 2012 Visited during the Stone Stone Tap Takeover May of 2012. I was greeted by Kim who was very friendly and had a variety of suggestions for me from Stone. I tried 2 of there smoked porters and Ruination which were excellent. I noticed they had some great beers in the cooler. If I had a partner I would have indulged in some Firestone Anniversary beers or 2010 Abyss. Guess I’ll have to go back. | | BlackHaddock (175), , England | | April 3, 2012 Got here by using the free shuttle bus from Downtown (back of California Hotel) to Sams Town and walked the mile or so from there.
Late afternoon on a warm, sunny May day (2010). Couldn’t see a thing when we walked in, it didn’t get much brighter when our eyes adjusted to the darkness. As you enter there is a room off to your left, don’t stumble into there because it is just a space with tables and chairs in, you want the square shaped bar which is straight in front, lite by a few neon beer adverts and sports screens, it is down a couple of steps or a ramp.
Lindsay looked after us and anybody and everybody else, about eight max during our three beer and meal stay. Rock music filled the room, not over loud, just enough so you couldn’t hold a conversation without raising your voice up a few decibel levels.
I started with a pint of Rogue ’Dead Guy Ale’ which was delivered in a Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale glass. My wifes draught also came in the same branded glass as mine. My other two beers were just as good as the first, these coming from Joseph James and the Dogfish Head Brewery. Didn’t take note of the wifes beers, but they tasted good too (I always check out her beer, just in case it is poison or something).
I ordered a basic burger and fries with everything, the wife a Garden Salad with Chicken, both were good, produced by an under worked (on our visit) cook.
Well worth the effort to get here (3 hour drive to London, 10 hour flight, half hour taxi ride, half hour shuttle bus and half hour walk).
It isn’t cosy, nor over friendly, we didn’t feel threatened or anything, it just seemed ’rough and ready’ more than ’welcoming’. Lindsay was fine, worried about her young son taking some girl to the pictures and chatting to a couple of regulars who were drinking bottles of Lite something or other.
The draught beer selection however seemed very welcoming, the bottled choices challenging too, I’ll revisit if I ever return to LV.
| | dcschiller (42), Scottsdale, Arizona | | February 21, 2012 Pretty cool place that has a large bar and about 20 taps. Several beers are unavailable in Arizona so that was a treat. They do growlers of all beers which is pretty nice. I got a burger and I would say its above average. The single biggest drawback is the smoking locals who seems to like chain smoking. | | Braudog (611), Hampton, Virginia | | February 13, 2012 Feb 2012. I’d sum up my thoughts about this place like this: it’s too bad it’s in Vegas. Unfortunately what would otherwise be a pretty cool beer bar has to fit the suburban Vegas mold, with video poker machines built into the bar, incessant smoke, weird lighting, and an ubiquitous blinding array of flat panel TVs, in an old stand alone bar that’s seen it’s better days, on the eastern edge of the Vegas sprawl. I visited on a weekday night, fairly early. The small crowd was certainly all local, and was evenly split between Bud Light drinkers and folks who seemed to be exploring new beer frontiers. The bar staff was super, super friendly and actually quite personable which is nice novelty in Vegas. The beer list was sturdy -- certainly the deepest draft lineup I’ve seen in town, as the availability list here illustrates. Although I didn’t eat, the menu looked to offer standard pub fare. Go for great service and hard to find beers, but expect that murky, off-strip feel. | | Wittales (12), Las Vegas, Nevada | | February 5, 2012 Always has new brews coming in,with good beers on tap here and there with snafu meetings... | kerikelli (1), , Nevada does not count - explanation | | January 16, 2012 [ Updated April 8, 2012 ] Aces & Ales mission is to provide high quality, freshly prepared food at reasonable prices. We go even further to provide a unique selection of beer, single malt scotch, bourbon, and tequila to enjoy alongside the food.
Aces & Ales strives to make available beers that are reserved or highly allocated for only the most serious beer-centric restaurants and pubs. Annual releases, brewery collaborations, and just plain hard to find beers somehow find their way into the cold storage space at Aces & Ales.
Homemade and from scratch means our food takes a little longer to prepare. All our appetizers and entrees are prepared to order. So, it may take a bit longer for your food to arrive at your table, but rest assured, once it does you will appreciate the efforts and lengths we go to serve high quality, uncompromisingly tasty bites. We work diligently with our suppliers each day to bring you the most nutritious and high quality products available.
22 rotating taps as well a finely tuned, 80+ bottled brew list (many ’vintage’ selections) have been hand selected for your pairing (and drinking) pleasure. We go to great lengths to find the most rare, most unique, and most first-rate beers. We’ve devoted our beer line up to those special brews that not only enhance the food we serve, but also represent some of the finest beers you’ll find around.
Grab a pint that pairs well with the fare or just come in for a drink on its own...we don’t care, but please try one of these beers, you won’t be sorry. We like to think we teeter somewhere between tradition and innovation
Happy eating and joyful drinking.
Cheers! | | Dogbrick (423), Columbus, Ohio | | January 1, 2012 (Visited 08/2011 3 days in a row for the 2nd annual Strong Beer fest): The bar is located on the east side of Vegas near Sam’s Town on South Neill. There is a decent-sized private lot on the side and rear.
The inside is split-level with the wraparound bar on the lower portion, complete with the requisite inlaid video gambling games. Some breweriana on the walls and TVs all around. A sort of biker bar feel through and through.
Difficult to comment on the typical tap lineup as it changed daily during my visits for the festival. Over 20 taps in total. On my visit there were one-offs and specialty beers from Deschutes, Stone, The Bruery, Joseph James, Tenaya Creek, Mikkeller and many more. Over 50 bottled beers available too.
Service was consistently good on our visit, and because we spent hours there 3 days straight we got to know the bartenders pretty well (the wife winning money at Keno each day was fun too).
Food at Aces and Ales is pretty good. The sandwiches are solid and the sides we tried were all good.
Overall this place is one of the standouts in Vegas, and it will definitely be on the short list for future visits. | | kathouse (13), Nevada | | August 13, 2011 [ Updated May 16, 2012 ] Nice place that’s near the strip. The tables are a little small but the friendliness more than made up for it. 26 draft beers to choose from is bigger than most microbreweries have. Prices are reasonable. We have had quite a few food items now. The Southwest Wings are a favorite. Salads, nachos, and sandwiches are all good. I’ll try the steak next. It’s our local bar now. | nebelnebel (1), , Norway does not count - explanation | | July 20, 2011 This place is well worth å detour (10 Min taxi from the strip) for beer entusiasts. It might not look like much at first glance, but don’t be fooled by the dull brick walls - this place has a good atmosphere, super service and quite a few surprises on the beer menu, i.e. several of Stones vertical epic ales. Good selection on tap. Bar food, but fresh and tasty (even my girfriend enjoyed it :-) Entertainment: Pool, pluss sports on TV. Both owners were present, both happy to talk beer and provide samples of their own favourites. | | Savvy1982 (53), Lethbridge, Alberta | | July 12, 2011 A very cool place, maybe my favorite Beer Stop in Vegas. This place is DARK inside, especially after the ultra-bright sun of Nevada in July! Almost a bit off-putting how dark it is. Ambience is a bit off-putting to be frank, but our server was very friendly and quickly put us at ease. Tap selection was pretty outstanding, with some surprising rarities, bottle selection also looked pretty strong. Food was acceptable, rather standard bar food, though prices were surprisingly reasonable, considering how expensive Vegas normally is. Although initially put off by the slightly intimidating feel of the place, I ended up enjoying Aces & Ales the most out of all the places in Vegas I visited. Absolutely can’t-miss if you’re in the area. |
