I’ve been going to North Bar since it opened about 16 years ago. A real trailblazer in the craft beer scene and still going strong. Expect the best of British, Europe and some real exciting specials from America. They put on some great events, meet the brewer, tap takeovers and themed festivals (Oktoberfest, Lowlands, US) and I do love Orval day. One of North Bar’s strengths is their staff, welcoming, friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about beer. Yes it’s pricey and you may need a second mortgage if you want anything from the fridges. Always ask how much something is before you order. As for as Leeds (if not West Yorkshire) this is where it all began!

Arguably the best range of beers in Leeds, or maybe West Yorkshire. As well as the ales there’s a more interesting lager selection than your usual tripe and the bottled menu is superb too, although the prices here are above average. The bar itself is easy to miss with its small window and door in the middle of a row of shops in the commercial centre of Leeds. Its own sign is not exactly prominent. Inside its long and thin and doesn’t ascribe to the comfortable pub mentality preferring the minimalist bar approach. None of this puts the masses off though.

Quite a modern type of bar a little off the beaten track, we walked past it twice looking for it, so not the most obvious place. Good selection of Taps to go for with a mostly Yorkshire theme when we were there, also a decent range of bottle beers, if somewhat pricey. A definite one to visit whilst in Leeds.

Pretentious, student vibe cafe/bar. Good selection of beer, but caught very rude staff on a Saturday night. Seems I was bothering the nice lady behind the bar by asking for drinks. She was much more interested in reciting rehearsed beer information to uninterested customers. Shame because it has a cracking beer selection albeit rather expensive.

A consistently great bar! Amazing beers (inc beer cocktails) and staff who are passionate about what they do.

Visit on a Tuesday night, was quietish. Excellent, large not huge, beer selection, friendly girls behind the bar. Didn’t eat. Like a small low key Northern bar with eclectic music and nice beer drinking atmosphere.

Really good selection of local and international beers. nice cafe style ambience and it gets some bonus points from me because Belle and Sebastian was on the stereo when I was there. Food and wifi was available.

Cracking bar. Seems a bit daunting from the street, all cramped and bustling - but once you get inside you see exactly why it’s so busy. Tons of choice, great atmosphere, excellent knowledgeable staff... brilliant! Could happily sit here for a week. A little pricey on some of the beers, but nothing outrageous. The food looked good too, though we didn’t have any.

cracking bar. probably the best selection in Leeds. if you want it they’ve got it and if not they offer to blend something! could happily have spent several hours and a big chunk of cash here. The only real downsides are the lack of space and comfy seats and the somewhat high prices. Having said that i’ll be straight back at the next opportunity.
