fiercepanda (5), Missouri does not count - explanation | | April 23, 2012 Standard atmosphere for a liquor store, but a very nice selection of beers and much closer to home for me. The build your own 6 pack is pathetic, but that’s not what I come here for, it’s the great selection, even if it is a little pricey. They do, however, have decent sales of select breweries, so you can always find something affordable as well. | boogles (1), Kansas does not count - explanation | | February 21, 2012 This review is a rant to report my dismay about the poor practices and customer service. For the second year in a row, I missed HopSlam because of their inefficient accounting.
I started calling twice a week on the release date and was told they did not know when it would come in. Then I was told that they would reserve some, and that they would call me. They did not call. When I phoned today, it was sold out. The woman I talked to was rude and patronizing, and told me not to be "mad at her" or to "take it out on her." However, I did not yell at her and I assured her that I was upset with the business, not her, and that I was upset about their inability to follow through on their promises. She did not offer me any of the back stash, which I know they have. She did not apologize.
The store has a good selection and they know their stuff--their beer manager is good. Otherwise, several of their workers are impolite and/or don’t know their stuff (not just this occasion). I will never shop here again. | | eclaycamp (35), , Kansas | | May 15, 2011 While Gomer’s Lee’s Summit doesn’t carry a lot of the "bigger" names that you can find in other stores, they do a fine job keeping their small(er) store in stock with all kinds of unique beers that you just can’t find anywhere else. They have a decent selection of 6 packs, but it’s their 3 coolers of bombers where they really shine. The only drawback is that there isn’t really a mix six option, but overall it’s a solid store, albeit a bit out of the way. | | jandd1983 (87), Florissant, Missouri | | March 20, 2011 First trip to Gomer’s, was impressed with their selection. Some of their items were a little higher in price than other stores, but overall it was great to see some hard to find brews. Will visit again when in town, nice job. | M82 (1), Kansas does not count - explanation | | August 28, 2010 As good as it gets in the KC metro | | curly (114), Seattle (Newcastle), Washington | | February 12, 2010 [ Updated April 26, 2011 ] The absolute best beer store I have been in to date. The only way it could be better is if you could break all the six packs, but they do have a limited selection of mix 6. I would have easily spent 500 dollars if I had it. The staff was friendly and even let me log in to Ratebeer on their computer so I could buy the best beers in KC, thanks again for that. I am still in awe of the selection they had even though it looked medium small initially, they have a lot of hard to find imports and an abundance of Bell’s, Founder’s and Schlafly and Boulevard of course..... Came back again on a cross country drive. Great selection again, my only complaint is that the single 12oz section is pretty small. I would have easily bought twice as much if I could have broken sixers into singles. | | foppa78 (12), Lees Summit, Missouri | | December 10, 2009 Sure Lucas is huge and impressive but Gomers in Lees Summit is the place to go. They have a very large selection with some nice hard to find beers. They do a great job of bringing in the new stuff and all of the seasonals. The build your own 6 pack is handy and the new selection of single bottles is very nice so that you don’t have to purchase some of the expensive 6 packs to try a new beer. The beer staff is quite knowledgeable and can help you with anything you need. Free beer tastings every Thursday night are great. My only complaint is that I think they are a little higher in price than their competition and even higher than other Gomers locations. I wouldn’t let that stop you from going to the best place in KC to buy beer though. | shaunhennessy (1), Lee’s Summit, does not count - explanation | | November 5, 2009 Knowledgeable, dedicated staff go out of their way to find the best beer selection in Kansas City. However, the customers of this store do as much for the beer selection as the staff. Thursday night, beer tasting night from 5 to 8 draws in some of the most dedicated craft beer drinkers and home brewers in the area. Many times customers will bring in either home brews or brews otherwise not able in Missouri that both helps to excite the general beer crowd and challenge the staff and distributors to keep bringing in beer from across the states. Please, join our community on Thursdays and help to enrich the Gomers Beer Experience. | mbsmith (3), Missouri does not count - explanation | | August 24, 2009 [ Updated August 27, 2010 ] This place keeps getting better. Best beer store in the KC area. Great selection of domestic and import craft beers (of all styles) with some hard to find stuff that i’m not going to name so i have longer to get it for myself. Beer manager is very knowledgeable and keeps on top of the latest releases. He’s also doing all he can to get everything that makes it to St. Louis across the state to KC. Competitive prices and an add’l 5% off if you get a Gomer’s card. Yes, it’s worth the drive to Lee’s Summit! My commute takes me near most of the major beer stores in the area but i’ve basically stopped shopping elsewhere. There’s enough here to keep me busy.
Selection continues to grow so i had to re-rate to take this into account. | | Pawola22 (18), Chicago, Illinois | | August 1, 2009 Others have said this, but I always thought Lukas was the place to go...until I came here. It is rather cozy, but they have a vast amount of hard to find beer. Talked with the beer manager quickly and he definitely knows what he’s doing and is very passionate about it. Very friendly, knowledgable staff that won’t hassle you while you roam. Lukas may have more in quantity (not by much, actually), but this Gomer’s has hands down the better quality beer. Not the best pick your own 6 pack selection, but it seems as if they are willing to work with you and take a few bottles out of the coolers to make things work. Free beer and wine tastings on Th/F too! |
