| jackl (30), London, England | | May 18, 2012 The Cittie of Yorke is a massive Sam Smiths pub located near Chancery Lane tube station. As others have noted in their reviews, the interior of the pub is most impressive. Huge wooden barrels hang above the bar. There’s plenty of seating. The pub is often crowded, mostly filled by legal professionals who work nearby. The selection includes all the usual Sam Smiths Beers you’d expect. Overall, it’s a fine place to visit. Though if I had to visit only one Sam Smiths pub in the area, I’d opt for the Princess Louise instead. | | BlackHaddock (175), , England | | March 29, 2012 This is a place to take tourists if ever there is. It is a lovely pub. The dark walled room on the left as you walk in should be looked into, but not used, instead carry on into the main bar.
On the lefthand side is a long bar with huge barrels sat above, on the right are little booths with enough room for two people on each bench. There is a central radiator and brown tiles toilets. It is like stepping back in time.
The only cask beer is Sam Smith’s Old Brewery Bitter which is a shame, but there are all the other Sam Smith beers and spirits to choose from too.
I love drinking in here and often use it as a meeting place when organising London days out with friends.
| | Leighton (226), London, England | | December 9, 2011 A Sam Smiths pub, so you pretty much know what you’re getting in terms of the beer; although, I actually found a beer here on tap that I have never seen before and that only had ten rates (Yorkshire Bitter). What I really loved about this place was the interior. I don’t know whether it’s authentic or not, but the feel of the place is great. Not totally sure how to describe it, though I would say it reminded me somehow of the Harry Potter movies. As with all Sam pubs the draft beer is dirt cheap, so that’s nice. Bartender was pleasant. Absolutely worth a visit if you’re in the area. | | Pubman79 (14), London, England | | September 21, 2011 A good Sam Smith Boozer | | Strebs (76), St. Louis, Missouri | | July 2, 2011 [ Updated April 23, 2012 ] Even though the decor is faux medieval done during the Victorian age, it’s a real treat. Situated in an extremely busy section of London, the Cittie of Yorke offers a welcome respite from the crowds. As with all Sam Smith pubs that I’ve visited, the food was good and satisfying...definitely a cut above all other tied pub groups in England. That their bitter is consistently less expensive than the bitter at other pubs is a plus, but I can’t but be disappointed that the other beers in Sam Smith’s range, that are exported to the US, are never available in their London pubs...no Imperial Stout, Oatmeal Stout, Taddy Porter, or Old Brewery Pale Ale...all superior to their bitter on tap. | | kwik-lime (13), London, England | | June 12, 2011 Not really a fan as Sam Smiths goes. Downstairs food bit feels like a pub, not a school canteen. Most Smithes have a far nicer ambience. Selection is Smiths’ standard, which is nice, but available all over London in nicer settings. | | beansoup (22), , | | April 22, 2011 It’s a Sam Smith’s house, so it’s OBB or nothing. Like drinking in an old hunting lodge. Probably. | | ladnewton (129), London, England | | March 16, 2011 [ Updated March 25, 2011 ] Pub’s main attraction is architectural, but the Sam Smiths beers are well kept as well which is a bonus. I have never eaten in this pub therefore left the food rating blank. We were served quickly on a busy Friday night on my January visit with a friend, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Loads of "snugs" and discreet intimate corners to drink in. Well worth a visit for the experience. | | DanielBrown (191), Birmingham (via Leicester), England | | April 4, 2010 Beautifully quaint pub, with an underground chimney thing. I enjoyed the draught stout here - a good central location. | | nate2g (320), Marlborough, New Zealand | | March 14, 2010 Another Sam Smiths pub. Beautiful pub though with wooden fitted interior. Wide hall style with charming booths along the side. Massive wooden vintage vats on display above the bar. Ten hand pumps available. It was busy at lunch time with locals chatting away about football and, er well football. Fun place. |
