| tderoeck (93), Gent, Belgium | | April 10, 2012 This place LOOKS fantastic. Lots of granny chairs and benches fitted into cosy corners, giving it a very home like feeling. The beer, well, that’s something else. The casks were nothing special and the drafts are all Heineken, Kronenbourg, Stella, ... Didn’t try the food, but saw a lot of plates coming out of the kitchen, they didn’t look too bad. The staff doesn’t give a rat’s ass about you or your interest in beer, they just want you to order quick, pay quick and be out of their way. Except when you’re a regular. Saw one of the suits grabbing some waitress ass and he got away with it. :p A good place to chill down after a day of walking in the area, but not exactly a must visit beer spot. | | Leighton (226), London, England | | July 18, 2011 [ Updated January 13, 2012 ] A very decent pub with a nice range of cask ales and good food offerings. I’ve been here a handful of times and I have always found something new to try. The pub is charming and the staff is efficient and friendly. Prices are par for the course. I would say one of the top ten pubs to visit in Central London (probably around number nine or so). | | beansoup (22), , | | April 22, 2011 Great beer selection + knowledgable staff + good food = high rating. Points deducted for being full of lawyers most of the time. | | Rune (234), Tromsø, Norway | | October 29, 2010 Quadrangular pub at two levels. We were happy to see that the new ownership continues to sell a good range of cask ales. Eight operating pumps serving ales from breweries like Leeds, Nethergate (house ale), Rudgate, Ascot and Marston Moor. Rather inattentive service. Holborn area pub trail, 04.10.2010. | | nate2g (320), Marlborough, New Zealand | | June 21, 2010 [ Updated June 22, 2010 ] I was surprised with how good the cask range is here. A free house that’s centrally located and around half dozen casks that were all new to me. Staff are great and the the food very tasty. A little more expensive due perhaps to the area but I could settle into the evening nicely in this pub. Well worth the time to visit. | | ladnewton (129), London, England | | March 11, 2010 Visited earlier this week with some friends. Unchanged since my session in the summer of 2007. Very pleasant bustling atmosphere, it was early evening and many "suits" were in the pub. The two ales I had, Oakleaf Bitter and a dark 5% ale were on good form, and although I did not eat, food smelled good. It is a handy pub if you’re in the area, and well worth more frequent visits. | | Svesse (139), Hässelby, Sweden | | December 18, 2009 Nice and friendly pub on a back street on the south side of Strand, just before it becomes Fleet Street. Friendly and efficient staff. Eight hand pumps of ever changing and well kept ales. The house ale comes from Nethergate. Closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Mainly inhabited by suits working in the legal area nearby. Definitely woth a visit. | | downender (196), Bristol, England | | April 12, 2009 A rare free house in central London, with a house ale from Nethergates and 7 or so others from all around the UK. Near Temple and close to pubs like The Castle, Seven Stars and 3 Wetherspoons in the Holborn/Chancery Lane area, so a good place to go on a crawl. gets busy after work. Worth seeking out. | | larsga (136), Oslo, Norway | | January 18, 2009 Nice traditional backstreet pub on two floors. Clientele appears to be mostly professionals working nearby. Barmaid was eastern European, but friendly and helpful. Food was typical English, but quite good. Quiet, no music. The real pull was the 8 cask real ales, all of them relatively obscure. Centrally located pub, so I’d say this is a must visit in London. |
