| matt7215 (47), Cambridge, Ontario | | November 18, 2011 not a bad place to go if your in london, if your doing a pub crawl it should be included but if you only have time for one stop this isnt where it should be. one thing that should be mentioned is that the Mo gets a lot of stuff from Church Key which makes it the only place in the city to find stuff from them. | | cratez (100), London, Ontario | | July 11, 2010 [ Updated January 20, 2012 ] EDIT - JUNE 2011: the single rotating OCB draught has expanded to a four-tap tower of local craft brews (Flying Monkeys, Duggan’s, Muskoka, Cameron’s). Mark switches up the 30 or so micro bottles on a seasonal basis, he’s brought in some rare draughts (Barely Legal Barley Wine, 10 Bitter Years), and they’re starting to hold brewery feature events (Grand River). My only issue is that there’s too many macros on tap. 2009 Review: A new beer bar/all-day restaurant on the east edge of downtown London. You can easily distinguish The Morrissey by the massive Fuller’s ESB mural on the left side of the building (facing Dundas). In fact, that’s how this place first drew my attention. The Mo is an old fashioned house-turned-pub with lots of tables and seating in various living rooms. There’s two bars with a flat screen to watch the game and a fireplace in the front end of the house. Patrons are a mix of young and old, neighbourhood folk, and the odd beer geek like myself. Everyone tends to mind their own business, which I really enjoy. Although the service is quite good, the waitresses were spread a bit thin the last time I visited. Still, on previous occasions I’ve had no problem getting food and drinks in reasonable time. Over the last six months, the beer selection has developed into one of the better lineups in the city. Current taps are Tankhouse, Okanagan 1516, Palm Amber, Creemore, London Pride, and Caledonian 80. Bottles include Plowman’s Ale, Beau’s Lugtread, Duggan #9, Dead Elephant, and King Dark. As of April 2010, the rotating Ontario tap was Mill Street Spring Bock. Previously it was Neustadt Big Dog Porter, Denison’s Weiss, and Grand River Highballer. The website takes requests for beer selections and the owner does a nice job of responding to suggestions. Food is an eclectic mix of fish entrees, Mexican and Thai dishes, and traditional pub fare. My girl and I like the nachos, which come with red/banana peppers, melted cheese, corn, beans, and curried beef. The sausage platter is also very tasty. Overall, the Morrissey is a friendly, cozy spot with a promising future ahead of it. Worth a visit if you’re looking for quality beer and decent food. | | Sammy (408), Toronto, Ontario | | March 10, 2010 A lot of potential. New place that opened mid-summer 2009. Integration of traditional materials with some modern touches, well lit. Bar was not huge, but felt comfortable. Virtually no parking. Now where is the beer? A Mill Street is all I saw on tap. There were a few bottles, and it included some Ontario beers. So more micro taps and many more bottles would be welcome. | | MrManning (55), London, Ontario | | September 23, 2009 [ Updated October 30, 2010 ] One of my favourite pubs in the city. Beautiful modern decor in an old house with high ceilings. Lots of nooks and crannies to choose from to have a pint in private, or sit on the new large patio out front. Mondays can be quite busy due to a pub quiz night (which is a lot of fun), but every other night is great for chatting.Service has been great the many times I’ve been. The servers know your name and are appreciative of your business, as is the man behind this great place, Mark. The beer list is very good. There are always rotating taps. Ontario micros are present and constantly rotate, as do many imports. Some beers have been on draught are: Hop Nouveau, Holy Smoke, Highballer Pumpkin, Mill Street Spring Bock (the only place in Ontario to actually ever get this other than the brewpub itself), and many more. They also have many bottles to chose from. I’ve tried everything on the menu almost. I love the Pulled Pork and Spring Rolls, but a recent venture into a Southern Chicken style sandwich ties for first place IMO. This place is always a stop for me in a night of pub crawls in London, and it should be for you too. |
