| shoulderbroken (60), Tokyo, Japan | | December 10, 2011 Always like going here, much more pleasant than most places in Camden and not full of Camden types, more a locals place. The Belgian selection is variable from the very good to occasionally not so good. Always a surprise though, and normally a mix of more obvious stuff and some more unusual things (Troubadour, Dupont). Unfortunately they don’t have the excellent selection of Drie Fonteinens any more, haven’t done for a few years. Shame! Price is £4 for bottles at the moment which compared to other places is pretty good. Stays open very late so you can get in a lot of trouble here. Really love the Nepalese barman. He is a star! | | Benjii (61), Edinburgh, Scotland | | December 2, 2011 We’ve always had a good time at this pub. A few cask ales and a decent bottle selection, focusing on German and Belgian beers. A few good go-to beers but light on the rarities. Service can be a little slow but the barman is getting on a bit ; P | | Pubman79 (14), London, England | | September 28, 2011 Decent beer selection in a very grubby pub | | Ungstrup (335), Oamaru, New Zealand | | July 20, 2011 A huge place with wood panelling and lots of booths, but the floor is lino and the cealing is painted yellow, and the deco is old and dusty. A Green King place, but mainly focused on continental imports, which are decently priced at 4 UKP in 2010, while the cask is London prices. Old people go here to have their Sunday roast - maybe because the owners are so old that the lived in the middle ages - which gives them the right to tell the younger and service minded staff off in front of the punters and not serve people who bring a pc to the bar, so they only managed to supply me with one new GK and a German weissbier. I hope new ownership is coming in soon. I’m not to return untill then. | | rosenbergh (275), Helsinki, Finland | | June 26, 2011 Only Greene King on casks. Some German and Belgian bottles. Quite cozy. Nothing exceptional though. | | nate2g (320), Marlborough, New Zealand | | August 30, 2010 A fun pub all round. A strong selection of German and Belgian bottles, with a decent number I’ve not seen before. It’s not crazily expensive either. Friendly staff and the bar is looked after by a couple of old timers. Brilliant. | | thewolf (138), Kolding, Denmark | | October 2, 2008 A great place. A sublime service from the the owners, who looks like they’ve lived and breathed the place for more than fifty years. Good selection of Germans, a bit disappointing selection of Belgians. A fine array of Greene King casks as well as the usual macro-swill on tap. We had a wonderful Chili Con Carne - spiced just to perfection. Great and cosy place. | | DonMagi (50), bantervile, England | | November 13, 2007 My first pub in london. Alround a different experiance to what i expected, far bigger than i thought, but at the same time not too much seating area. Good selection of beers, though by the end of the nite id tried every different thing they had and all the cask beer had finished. An unusual mix of people in here there was some leaving party group up the back and also a few groups of goth’s. Intresting place indeed. | | Rastacouere (581), Montréal, Quebec | | August 3, 2007 The local pub of mesandsim, so drop them a line if you visit. A rather different building than the typical English pub, with lots of colours. Unusual music was playing when I was there, old 70s and 80s stuff. Apparently rotation selection of many bottles from the other major European brewing countries, including quite a few rarities indeed. Friendly service. | reakt (7), , England does not count - explanation | | April 22, 2007 We visited this place some years back - we weren’t so impressed then, but after a recent visit, our views have changed. Small, but very impressive selection of Belgian, Dutch, Canadian and German brews. Top notch barman - we were served all night by a gent that was at least 90 yrs old. It was some the, uhhh, slowest service we’ve ever had, but we gave him a fat tip at the end of his shift anyway. Really comfortable atmosphere and open well past midnight. |
