Small pub / bar close to Borough Market, always busy whenever we visit. The beer choice is exceptional for such a small place but it is often quite tricky to get served, although not yesterday. The bar man was particularly cheery and helpful on this occasion, which has not always been the case. The outside seating area is very relaxing for its location near the market. The Gents loo is the smelliest we have come across in quite a while.

The Rake is a tiny place which is itís main drawback. The outside space is generally packed and itís not easy to get served as have to fight way to the bar. Attended for the De Molen tap takeover and the beer range was disappointing with 2 keg and cask versions of the same beer available and a barrel aged version of something in reserve.
Beer range is usually OK, itís pricey but thirds are available.
It does have interesting beers on but itís not a place I would describe as "go to".

This small bar in Borough market is an excellent place to take a rest when visiting city center or doing tourist walks around the market. Always offering really different kinds of beer to make happy all kind of customers.

This little place is a must visit when in the Borough Market area. It has a solid selection of beers, a nice outside area and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. Itís a bit expensive though.

Looking at my score Iím wondering if Iím being a little harsh. 3 for ambiance. Iím not going higher and could go lower. It gets the job done and isnít polished at all. Bit who cares if the beers good? Service, fine. Relatively quick but it was quite quiet. Good selection at reasonable prices. Couple of stouts and pale ales on tap. And a gose and a couple of lagers so everyone should be happy. Well stocked fridges but it seemed a little expensive. But it is London. Pressure drop tap take over in 2 weeks. Iíll be returning.

the Rake. The godfather of Craft Beer in London and the place I dreamed of when I was stuck working in the Middle East!
Time however has moved on and I think the craft beer explosion has left the Rake looking a bit unloved. I was in last night and both the taps and bottles were a little uninspiring. Not a single IPA on the tap/pumps but three stouts. I get irritated by this. When you eat at a Gordon Ramseyís he doesnít only have 3 beef main courses!! Come on guys plan ahead.
Anyway had an decent smoked beer than a few cans of beavertown session IPA which were all good but I cannot help that others are now doing it better. I expect the Rake to still be showcasing the best not sharing stock with Tescoís (ok maybe a slight exaggeration) but Fullers frontier on tap and flying dog in the fridge doesnít cut the mustard.
