| dionysus (10), Arizona | | February 26, 2012 Every major city needs a cigar bar, and I’m glad to have stumbled upon this one on my recent trip to the area. Selection isn’t massive, but is typically pretty solid. Excellent service from a fairly knowledgeable staff. If cigars are your thing, or you just enjoy the smell, I would definately recommend swinging by if you happen to be in Madison. | | BVery (227), Burnsville, Minnesota | | September 3, 2011 Cigar and beer bar. 17 taps, 1 cask, and 5 bottles when I was here. Cool vibe, decent prices, friendly staff. | | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | August 14, 2011 Stopped here for a GTMW pre-party. All Bell’s lineup with some good stuff. I caught a glance at the regular lineup which had some good stuff. The staff was good. They were able to work with me so I could try six different beers, which was cool given they were dealing with some insane crowds. Comfortable interior with a bar and couches. I mainly was in the outdoor cafe. The previous rater seems to be calling out other raters for mentioning smoke. Yeah, its a Cigar Bar, but what that rater doesn’t seem to accept is that Maduro is a place that is open to the public and if the business plan they chose is offensive to some parts of the public, they have to accept that. Granted I’m not going to hold it against them, but I completely understand why others would. | | CheersMate (132), Fremont (Seattle), Washington | | April 26, 2011 Do you want a cigar, and a beer? Or hell, you can just grab a beer here, as long as your pussy-ass lungs can handle a little bit of smoke. If you want, and don’t mind the aforementioned things, then please, go to Maduro. The service? Awesome. The cigars? Pretty good. The beer selection? For a cigar and liquor bar -- it’s pretty good. No assuming, and very relaxed. If you’re having a tough day, head here. I loved this place and I definitely plan on heading back before I leave. It’s in a very cool part of town -- for Madison. The prices were awesome. The ambiance had a classic, gentleman’s lounge feel to it. Damn, I really, really like this place. Why are there so many people mentioning the smoke? You should know that this place allows smoking. At least, any rational human being that does their research before visiting any place should know that they allow smoking. Quite honestly, I don’t think that they’re trying to get on their knees for beer geeks. Sorry. | | blutt59 (121), Dallas, Texas | | August 17, 2010 cigar themed, nice shotgun bar with around 20 taps, came here during GTTM and had the Bell’s lineup, smoking allowed obviously, need to try again | | NobleSquirrel (161), Chicago, Illinois | | August 9, 2010 Very cool little place with a well chosen selection. Realistically, its strength also happens to be its weakness. It’s nice being able to roll in and have a stogie with an Expedition, the only problem is that you lose your sense of smell. Still. nice to be able to grab a smoke and a big beer to pair with it. | | kseecs16 (185), Naperville, Illinois | | April 30, 2010 Cool little bar with the sweet scent of nice stogies. Some leather sofas and other seating and a nice long bar backed a bar of rustic wood shelves on a brick wall. A good if not huge tap selection with 1 cask offering (though the Two Hearted I had off of cask was not in top shape). Cigar smoke could turn some off, but this a comfortable space with a nice selection of beer and liquor that I could see myself spending a lot of time in if I lived nearby. | | nuplastikk (32), Madison, Wisconsin | | November 27, 2009 A hot spot in Madison for top-notch tap selection. Prices are reasonable, 5 or 6 dollars for a Belgian, maybe a buck or two less for US stuff. Taps rotate pretty well..some recent draft favorites were Cazeau Saison, Bernardus Abt 12, and Schneider Eisbock. Cigar smokers oasis, filled with a cigar haze. Great atmosphere and central location. | | BBB63 (120), La Porte , Indiana | | August 13, 2009 Take away the Bells selection at the pre-GTMW party and you are left with a nice beer bar with an olde world feel, Good service and proper glassware. Got smoky as the night went along but since I am a smoker, it did not bother me (note: I went outside to smoke so not to bother the other ratebeerians and BA guys and gals I was with). | | marchcow (36), Coralville, Iowa | | August 12, 2009 Stopped by in the evening after the GTMW ’09. Nice laid back atmosphere, kind of a European feeling. We sat outside on the street facing into the bar and for a minute I forgot where I was, as I could have been at any great bar in any city in the world. Definitely a sign of a good atmosphere. I was a bit tired so I only had a couple of Alpha Kings on tap. Definitely will come back. |
