4 reviews for The Malt House
| Juelze (18), Green Bay, Wisconsin | | June 21, 2009 Stopped here to see what they had on tap as my brother and I were hoping from some Cantillon on tap. Instead we ended up having a Bitter Woman on the Rye, Alpha King, and SN Bigfoot all on tap. Nothing pretentious here, just good beer and friendly people. | alassio (3), does not count - explanation | | October 10, 2008 Imagine you could visit beer heaven, where all the taps are selective brilliance imagine the atmosphere is warm, calm, bright, with loads of boffo vintage Belgian wall signs and Westveleteren crates imagine it was only 10 minutes from where you work and it’s $1 off from 4-7pm. I’M not imaging it, I don’t think (pinching self). What a spectacularly great beer (whiskey too) bar. Vastly experienced and knowledgable ownership & service fabulous selection of brews alternating (they say) about monthly (I can’t wait till next month though). Tonight it was the Capital Autumnal Fire chased by a Cantillon Iris Lambic. Last visit it was an Erdinger Oktoberfest Weisse chased by a Tripel Karmeliet. At happy, happier, happiest hour pricing. Still pinching. | stefanberggren (4), Madison, Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | August 19, 2008 Great place to have a Belgian or craft brew. No TV’s ! Yeah Great atmosphere and great service. The beers are well cared for and the selection is wonderful. Also a wonderful selection of bourbon and single malts. Soon to become the best craft beer bar in Wisconsin ! Stop by and look for the Chimay banner outside. They are also bicyclist friendly with a great bike rack outside for parking. Highly recommend a visit ! | | CMUBEERMAN (49), Madison, Wisconsin | | June 17, 2008 The new place in Madison, owned and operated by Bill of the Madison Homebrewers and Tasters Guild (he is in chair of the Great Taste!). Only been open for a week, but this place shows some serious promise. Very laid back and classic ambiance (I think the bar is over 150 years old). Folks are helpful and knowledgeable (especially if Bill serves you). No food. Selection is evolving, but look for plenty of beers that you don’t see around Madison everyday. Opening week had plenty of Belgians drafts (including a 2005 Cantillon Lou Pepe Framboise on tap!). American craft drafts are a deal and belgian drafts are priced right. This place could shape up to be as good of a stop as Maduro, so let’s hope they keep the draft and bottle list interesting. |
