| 3fourths (962), Boulder, Colorado | | May 22, 2012 large-roomed interior with a long bar offering similar taps to other places in town (some Swedish, Danish, German, American). extensive bottle selection, be sure to ask for the book. enjoyed a Tsarina Cognac on my visit. | | Skakapa (14), Malmö, Sweden | | March 30, 2012 Two rooms - one bar plus a larger restaurant with stage. Experienced and knowing staff. Usually excellent food but it can vary. Good selection of Scandinavian bottles in the restaurant bar, more taps in the pub room along with a good choice of world beers incl many De Molens. Occasional beer events (brewer visits). | | kschep (44), , Denmark | | August 15, 2011 been a couple times, and their bottle selection, if not always interesting, then very large. always a lot of lesser known stuff to choose from. | | Boudicca (205), London, England | | July 11, 2011 On a damp Sunday afternoon, the Nya Trols seemed like a cross between a clubhouse bar and a family restaurant. It’s a little way out from the centre of Malmo but near an interesting park with amusements, which perhaps explains why there were a few families with young children dining there. It has a very local feel and isn’t somewhere you’d be likely to stumble across by accident so thanks to Lars and Anders for taking us there.
On the outside the Nya Trols is fairly ordinary but it has a large deck area along one side near the main entrance which, for some inexplicable reason, made me feel as if I was about to enter a Tyrolean chalet. Inside it’s quite spacious; we only went in one bar but apparently there are two. It’s basic in décor, with plain brown painted tongue and groove panelling below the dado rail and white painted wallpaper above. There’s a variety of beer related plaques and pictures on the walls, a dart board and, at one end of the room near the door, what I took to be a small stage. Bottles are displayed on shelves over the windows and, at the end of May, there were flags around the room advertising St Patrick’s week. According to Anders, these had been there since March.
The list of draught beers was quite unusual. There were some treats like Beer Here’s Bukkake, Eskilstuna’s Stenby Single Hop and Narke’s Max Golding Starkporter alongside less tempting brews - two Staropramens, Falcon Export, Carlsberg Hof, Samuel Adams and Brooklyn lagers, Guinness, Leffe Blond and Hoegaarden. The bottle list was something else completely and here the Nya Trols really came into its own with a wide selection, including many I’d never heard of. Have a look at the website to get an idea of the range. Anders Dubbel IPA and Artos Modern Lager (both from Eskilstuna) were a couple that we tried alongside the draft Max Golding Starkporter and Stenby Single Hop.

| peterclash (3), Malmö, Sweden does not count - explanation | | May 3, 2011 I like it a lot, but the problem is that the owners doesn’t employ enough waiters. But the waitress working there are great and knows the beers. The place is big but can be overcrowded sometimes. The low foodrating is perhaps me being a vegetarian. | Mattos999 (2), , Sweden does not count - explanation | | September 8, 2010 Great selection of bottles here, although new draft beers tend to be sporadic, can get very expensive for the more specialised bottled porters and IPA’s.
Would recommend a visit if your in Malmö | andersand (9), Malmö, Sweden does not count - explanation | | August 18, 2009 Odd place close to "folkets park" and Nobelvägen. Selection is pretty solid, the owner is fast when it comes to getting the new American and Danish beers available in Sweden, often for a very low price aswell. Staff consists mainly of young girls with very limited beer knowledge but they do try.. The ambience is a bit off here though, kind of crappy in a not so charming way with plenty of both older and younger drunks especially on weekends. Also beware that IPA’s and IIPA’s often are way too old here. |
